it makes william cry when I make fun of indie kids

luke likes to throw around the term indie as if it applies uniformly to anyone who seeks out experimental and/or obscure and/or contemporarily classified types of music, and to sound edgy while still identifying with the everyman. yet he doesn't know what he's talking about -- math rock as i understand (and heard) it is closer to metal and i kinda hate it whereas i loves me some prog.

is prog-rock really that technical? it seems all too often to make sport out of music; who can improv the hardest and wildest and add as many sounds to the session while still maintaining an aesthetically adequate rhythm.

Maybe shake my head, maybe laugh approvingly or sneeringly, but cry? Can't say I do! And the guy wasn't even "talking in my direction" here. To be fair the connection is still imagined: I'll call anyone out who makes a stupid or painfully unnuanced opinion known, especially if it's done in such a snobbish, belligerent manner.

The difference between the prog of yore and the metal of today is the difference between Republican Lincoln and Republican Palin. Instead of asking people who don't care enough or at all about so-called math rock, you could just see what the Wiki kids have to say about both and draw some conclusions from that.
