Screwmonkey doesn't usually like eclectic musicos like Ween, Animal Collective, etc. Frank Zappa is one of the exceptions.

The type of people he refers to, like punks and hipsters and others who sacralize music, pretend not to like Sublime much less anything as lame (and also mainstream) as Coldplay. They're just exasperated by his apparent inability to enjoy a single Radiohead song--not that he's bothered listening to any in years.

He even told me once that all the hype is a part of what bothers him about the band, and that he'd only given Bends/Computer a single run through at best.

Coldplay is considered a poor-man's ripoff of Radiohead, the latter being fellated by everyone to the point of nausea, but that's because they're fucking good.

The craftsmanship put into their best songs is unparalleled, and I've also never heard a group with as much crossover appeal. Indie kids love them. Dark, somber post-rockers love them. Moms and dads like them. Electro-DJ types love them. And most surprisingly of all, stoners into Phish, Grateful Dead, and other jam bands love the shit out of Yorke and company. I don't get it, but it seems to be a good thing.

Ween is more interesting; less predictable. I've barely scratched the surface yet but I'm fond of what I've listened to.
