I bought the coolest PC Scanner on the Planet!

THe other day I was just sort of browsing around in Best Buy and I was in the computer section. I was passing the scanners and then something unusual caught my eye. There was this see thru slightly tinted glass window with a frame around it and symbols for a power switch, a printer, and so forth on the side with this slim silver buttons on the side. I looked at it, and questioned just what the hell it was, there was no tag on the shelf. It had some kind of info about HP scanning technology on it, and I realized the thing was a scanner, but ah...how in the hell? I own a scanner already, but the thing is huge, we're talking almost 5 inches thick with this big flap door that closes on the top, what you expect a scanner to look like, but ah, this thing was basically just a window about as thick as a laptop Flat Panel screen, those are pretty thin. So I know a lot about PC's and PC peripherals, and this thing totally slipped under my radar. I have no idea how it works and looks so damn futuristic I was like O_O! So I take the box for it and walk up to a Best Buy employee, and he says he doesn't know what it does, but gets me the HP Product Rep that just so happened to be in the store that day.

Turns out, yep it's a scanner, but a quantum leap in technology for scanners, you can now scan anything anywhere, without the box part, and it has 2400 DPI Optical at 48 bit resolution which I think is higher than my old heavy grey brick. You can pick it up and simply place it on a desk or put stuff behind the glass and see thru the glass at what you're scanning so the corner's aren't bent, there is that stand, which has a kind of polarized glass so it doesn't scan through the glass at stuff behind, so you can scan on the stand, or just pick it up and scan on the desk, your face, etc. The scanner also can scan things as big as you want, you just scan, and scan and the software puts together the individual scans into a huge image. I scanned the cat, some CD's, my Simpsons poster, etc. This thing is the $hit, for sure. Its so light and thin, like maybe 12 ounces to 1 lb or something,

The box reads:

Scan what you want - see thru window plus breakthrough thin size

Unique design allows scanner to sit vertically in easel to save space or be used horizontally on your desktop.

capture scans from negatives and slides using the included adapter

Scan any size item, scan photos, documents, books and more - larger items can be scanned in sections and easily reassembled.

Well, I wouldn't know about stuff like that. I only shop at Circuit City.

Neat scanner, but I think from now on you should come down more softly on rich people for throwing money around. After all, you probably throw money around more than any of us.

With Bow let us win Kine, with Bow in battle, with
Bow be victory in our hot encounters,
The Bow brings grief and sorrow to the foeman; armed
With Bow may we subdue all regions.
Close to his ear, as fain to speak, she presses, holding
Her well-loved friend in her embraces;
Strained on the bow, she whispers like a woman -- this
Bow-string that preserves us in the Combat.

Heh, well it was only $199, and I put it on a credit card, which means that's money I don't actually have, heh. It was just cool, and if I get sick of it for some reason I can always take it back within the return policy.

Know why I can afford all this electronics and such? I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't drink coffee, I dont buy porn, or music CD's (I do buy DVD's and Video Games though). I use coupons at the grocery store on top of sale items to get probably 200 dollars worth of groceries that last me a month for 80 dollars (Most people spend about 200 - 400 on food including eating out). I buy in bulk, i.e, my TP lasts me about 6 months. When I have a job, and can pay my bills, I see what I have extra and I save it for hard times, or save for fun times, and buy cool stuff I end up using. I know how to work the system and get free stuff as well, and considering I worked at CC for 2 years, I had a discount on everything and used it with wanton abandon, especially when I could buy a print cartridge for 13 dollars that costs normal customer's 30. I wear designer clothes that I either purchase from Salvation Army for 1 or 2 dollars or Bells/Marshalls for a fraction of their mall price. I own my own home and get extra credit on my taxes for the intrest I pay in the mortgage, mind you paying the interest is basically pissing your money away, but I do have a low FHA rate, and the loss is a little offset by the fact that I get a tax deduction for it, as well my house appreciated almost 100% in value over the last 3 years from the loan price. I could sell my house today and walk away from the table with 50 grand, but I would have no house. I paid 60 grand for it, which was a deal when I got it, and now it's worth 110,000 and rising and if I do more stuff to it, makes it worth more. If I pay 5,000 to add a room to it, I can sell my house for 10,000 more, so I double my money there. If I could afford to put in pool for 20,000 I can add 35,000 to the value of the property, and my assessed Tax Property value can't increase by more than 3500 a year because I have a special Homestead Exemption in Florida and it also decreases the assessed Taxable value by 25,000 so my taxes are cheaper however the market value of the property increases by 15% a year.

Do yourself a favor and play with credit cards when you're a teenager. Follow the procedure of buy, pay off, buy, pay off. Get a few CC's and buy stuff, then buy pay off then cancel the CC's except a couple. If you can get your parents to put a car in their name but you pay them each month, you won't have that credit liability on your record however the trade off is you won't get the good standing of having a pay off loan on your record. Start a savings account, and ALWAYS put something in it, even if it's only 20 dollars a week. Shop cheap, like the examples I explained above. When you want to move out of your parents house, look into buying a house, if you are approved for the Mortgage, but the payment is very high, get a roommate, and have him rent a room of the house from you, and bascially pays for half your mortgage, but will never own part of your house because you are the property owner and he is only renting. Buying a house is like automatically being given a free annuity or winning stock, cause all you got to do is sit on the house for some time and you can sell it for more than you paid, especially in real estate hot areas. Right now where I live is going nuts, all the land in this area is used up and it's all surrounded by water so market values are soaring, and they are tearing down the old neighborhoods from the teens and twenties downtown and replaceing them condos and multistory townhomes and apartment complexes.

Re: I bought the coolest PC Scanner on the Planet!
I was able to buy a house just before I turned 22 by playing around with credit scores, and having a steady job at the time when I applied for the loan. As well the government has bonuses and grants for first time home buyers, FHA mortgage where you pay no closing costs, except the escrow which you usually end up getting refunded. As well if you join the military there are low VA Mortgage rates that are lower than standard lending rates. The company I work for is currently offering 4.25% on VA Mortgages. I wouldn't recommend joining the military right now unless you want to go into the Air Force or Navy, those guys don't have to groundpound in Iraq and get shot at. Some people are military types, they dig that, however many of my friends from HS who joined any of the branches, hated it with a vicious passion, and the military lied on all the promises they made to them before hand about college tuition reimbursement and job placement guarantee etc. Two of my friends went nuts in there and were discharged.
