I would suppose that "nu-metal" has a similar problem with that other unhip genre that was mentioned in that post: big tendency to have things that don't belong placed into it by misclassifcation.
I mean, like, 90% of what the media lumps as "emo" isn't actual emo, or even close to it. Pretty annoying for emo fans, I would bet. Nu-metal kids probably have it the same way.
I'm not huge on classifying things and taxonomy, but boy is it annoying when the non-music media covers music...and decides to start classifying things and identifying trends, without a clue in the world.

That wasn't responding to neoenigma.
To neoenigma, I'd say: Why not? Hasn't metal mutated so much over the years that nu-metal can be included under its umbrella?
Isn't NWOBHM-type stuff as different from the original "heavy metal" as nu-metal is from other metal?

Nah. Clueless rural white kids get more credit for inventing musics than do urban white kids, for sure.

Chalk me up for the clueless urban white kid club.
I don't know about that classification thing... I know that Saves The Day and Rites Of Spring are hardly the same "emo" we're talking about, but really, what's the problem, and what else are you going to call the new stuff?

hahaha, indeed, I don't classify things either....unless by each individual band or artist, because they're all different, but I can identify the similarities

I hate the fact that Rites of Spring are classified as "emo" at all, let alone were apparently the first band to be classified as that.
I dunno, I think we should probably call in Coheed/psyko to talk about emo classification.

The quotes of quotes of quotes put me off, so I only glazed through the second page of this.
Lyrics. Yeah, they're not easy to write, I don't bother. Always made instrumental music, and wouldn't change that even if I could sing any more.
The Jew has my approval for liking "Kelly Watch The Stars", at least. I haven't heard any of the Aphex songs you're putting up, though, but if they're from his soft.. well, less harsh, early 90's period, I probably approve.

Actually, when I think about it, the fact that there are TONS of farms around here, and I have a backyard practically big enough to play football in, I guess I'm kind of rural. Go about 50 yards south from my house, though, and you're in a more suburban area.

What really gets me is when people who are huge fans of one genre, and then don't even seem to notice that a whole world of music exists outside of that one genre, start complaining when all of their bands are lumped together. A couple of issues of Guitar World ago they had a feature on Drive-Thru Records, and their founders had something to say about being called the e-word...
"The press hs tried to sum us up from day one, and it's just shit. If anybody ever fucking bothered to listen to the records they'd find that our bands do not all sound alike! Steel Train sound nothing like the Starting Line, who sound nothing like Finch, who sound nothing like Something Corporate, who sound nothing like the Early November or RX Bandits. The only similarity between all of these bands is the fact that they all write amazing choruses. They're all pop-based bands."
I was going to keep typing, but it turned out I didn't have anything more to say

I classify anyone shorter than 5'5 as a short person.
The only reason I lowered the standard from 5'9 is that I didn't want Amber to feel too short. I'm a sucker for a girl who can literally force me to do anything with one word.
"Jooohn..."
...How do these girls do it?

How tall are you, Snip? I'm somewhere in the limbo between 5'11 and 6' but that isn't too bad considering that I'm in my very early teens.

Yeah, they're fairly new. They put out an EP last year and released their first full length album in... October I believe. I've been listening to a lot of newer music lately as I recently visited my uncle in NYC who has a huge music selection and is always up on current (mostly good) bands. So I usually leave with a whole bunch of new songs on my ipod.
Hence the newish music.
mmmmmmyup....

Yeah, hope for 6'5" or so. A perfect height, I think. 6'10" is just kinda freaky.

Another negative thing about height... because I'm so much taller than most people in my school, most things are not made for people of my height. I've hit my head on things, and do to the fact that height = bigger bones, I've actually gotten stuck in desks for a second or two. Also, the air is thinner up here, and we get hit with the rain first.

You're crazy. 6'5 is terrifying.
6' seems a nice height to be.
As for categorising, I categorise anyone who doesn't get goose pimples from the following song as legally comatose.

No, but considering the fact that 98% of the people are around 5'4, and some are shorter, I get the short end of the stick. Or the tall end. How can there even be a short/tall end of a stick?

I think between 5'10"-6'2 is a good ideal height for a guy and for a girl about 5'5"-5'9"....but nothing wrong with shorter girls

It's supposed to be "get the short stick" but the saying's been corrupted over the years, like that Grant's Tomb thing.
