The JJ Babbitt Co. manufactures a C Soprano Mouthpiece for $130.

You must purchase through thir dealer:

Kermit Welch

I purchased one.

Kermit is VERY HELPFUL and supplied me with a lot of useful information.

He has other sax mouthpieses for C-Melody Tenor and OTHER saxes.

Roger, yes, I saw one of those on ebay, it's still there - very striking appearance - item 170188671771

I think I'd want to disagree with his very forthright statement(quote)" Although the C soprano is very near the size of a Bb soprano it requires a shorter mouthpiece and a smaller tone chamber than a Bb soprano saxophone MP. Just as a Bb tenor MP will not work on a C Melody saxophone and the C Melody requires its own size. A Bb soprano MP is too large for a smaller C soprano. " (end quote).

I have both C and Bb Soprano mouthpieces, and they're both equally usable on a C-Sop - in fact some players get better intonation with Bb Sop mouthpieces. Same with using sensibly small chambered Tenor mouthpieces (or large chambered Alto ones) on C-Mels.

I sincerely hope that the rest of the "useful information" he supplied to you was slighly more open minded. So what exactly does Kermit play, by way of C-Mel and C-Sop ? Are those comments from his personal experience ?

Why don't you write to Kermit.

He's been playing the sax for over 50 years and still plays FOUR GIGS per week at 73.

Roger - I couldn't keep a straight face discussing anything with someone named 'Kermit' - I'd keep expecting Miss Piggy...

But then I guess he's heard that many times before ?

AS DO my slant-sig Link and vintage Meyer Bb pieces on my C-Sop...

But thanks Roger, if Welch Music do have a regular stock of those , I'll add acouple of links from my website to it (cmelodysax.co.uk, in case there's anyone alive who hasn't heard of it...:-) - always useful to find suppliers in our little musical 'niche'.

I tried to buy some from Babbitt but they only sell to Welch. I have had 2 Conn C sopranos and both were horribly out of tune. I got Theo to send me 4 real vintage C mouthpieces and it made NO difference in the tuning. I have found that a Yamaha 4C Bb works as well as anything. I am looking for a Martin, King or Holton C now.

Quite bizarre that Babbitt will only supply to one dealer - seemed to be the same with their C-Mel mouthpieces.

But Tampa Dave does seem to be selling Babbit (with one 'T') C-Mel mouthpieces on ebay...

My Holton C soprano plays well in tune with a Goldbeck C mouthpiece. I have a Holton C mouthpiece which I have to clean up and see how well it plays.
