Hi there,

I have just purchased an old Hawkes & Son sax on Ebay (in full knowledge that it was not a low pitch) as a project horn.

At first I thought it was a high pitch horn (difficult because the neck is missing), but now I am thinking it could also be a c mel.

Can anyone throw any light on this old horn (see link below)

Cheers
Mike

That's definitely not a C-melody. I can't say whether it's a High Pitch, but it does have "d#" stamped on it which confirms the visual impression that it is an alto.

Yes, looks to 'dumpy to be a C-mel, check if the body length (bow to neck socket) is around 22" (alto) - to be a C-mel it'd be at least 24".
