I must admit that I do like the look of some C-Mels starting to appear, where the silver body has been lacquered, but the keys are left in original silver finish.

With a pale gold lacquer, it takes years off the age of the sax, giving C-Mels a wider appeal (and making them easier to clean) to those who care about looks rather than playability. Nice example on ebay - VINTAGE BUESCHER C MELODY CONN LOW PITCH SAXOPOPHONE (190084538947)

OK, it's a Buescher sax in a Conn case.....

Alan. Possibly you remember that years ago I had the silver plated body of my silver/gold Buescher C Tenor lacquered. This was carried out to prevent tarnish and it still looks as good, and clean, as on the day it was done.
I would defy anyone to detect any difference in before and after sound....looks and "playability"

Lewis, apologies for forgetting, these days I often have problems remembering what I really should have done yesterday..... Happily, my fingers and embouchure still retain their muscle memory !

A friend, a big band player, apologised to the 2nd alto for his loss of chops following a two week holiday (well, let's call it a holiday)...the response was "don't worry old chap; my chops go after a four bar rest".

Bb - Does that also apply to Satin Silver. Wouldn't the satin silver take on a gloss effect, rather than the dull satin silver effect?

JJ.
Good point; this worried me at the time as the horn is indeed, satin silver.
I took it to a specialist car sprayer who assured me that lacquers have changed out of all recognition since even cellulose. The lacquer he applied was matte; and will reputedly adhere to bathroom tiles.
To look at the horn there is nothing to suggest that it he been lacquered...still satin silver, no chipping and a jolly sight easier to keep clean.

Ah - you had me confused there Capn Bb - I couldn't remember that your silver/gold Buescher had a relacquered body, but I was thinking gold lacquer, not the invisible one that you had done........

P.S I think I'm going to call you "Capn Bob", far better than Bb....... :-))

Alan. I would prefer "oi you" to Cap'n Bob, that's worse than Sid. No-one likes to be called Sid, even if that's their name. With Bb, only one key is used, why make work for yourself? :-)

Just thought, even Cap'n TT would be better as I have both a Buescher TT and an Audi TT. Prefer that you stick with Bb however :-))
