You have read my complaints about lack of rain here in Southern California; but this is getting ridiculous!

Off the coast of Mexico we have a Tropical Storm that is doing its best to become a cyclone (hurricane). The usual results of this type of activity are that moisture spins off of the storm and heads into Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico (as well as Baja California and the Mexican Mainland) lowering temperatures and spawning rain and thunderstorms. This typically brings relief from the high temperatures and raises the humidity dramatically.

This storm has indeed tempered our temperatures. As of 10:00 AM the temperature is only 72F (22C) with humidity at 61%. Typical for this time of year it should be about 86F (30C) with humidity around 15%. So, this moisture and cloud cover is welcome.

However, our much needed rain is only given a 10% chance of happening. We are expecting DRY thunderstorms! Just what we need, lightning striking our very dry vegetation with no rain to stop or contain any ensuing fires. Well, I guess I should prepare for a long, smokey fire season.

If only we could take some of the European or Texan deluge and water thirsty Southern California!

Many of those scientists who signed up to the initial hypothesis, did it, shall we say, for political rather than scientific reasons. Many of the original signatories are threatening now to sue unless their names are removed.
Rather more ethical scientists have calculated that every human influence accounts for just 1.5% of the greenhouse gasses. The expression "p*****g in the wind springs to mind.
This is the old story...all the philosophers in the world, if put end to end, would not reach a conclusion.
Sadly, we believe what we are told to believe.

The problem is that the data that we have is slightly ambiguous. Run it through one statistical analysis, you get one result, run it through another and you get a conflicting one. However, it is evident that the planet is warming up, but by what degree is fiercely debated, although still the huge majority stick to their first conclusion. Scientists are Natural Philosophers, and so require evidence to create a conclusion. It is something that in pure physics may have been forgotten, but I'd be surprised if there were no evidence in the climate change debate.

Ultimately, I do not have the knowledge, evidence or know-how to know whether climate change is happening. I understand the theory, but do not have the figures. We can only trust those people who do.

I have to agree with Capt Bb on this one, I accept that the world is probably warming up but that our contribution to this phenomena must be minimal at best; it seems to be widely ignored that we only emerged from a mini ice-age in the 19th century and that the present cycle of warming is simply a result of this.

Owen.
There is no argument that the planet is indeed warming...a natural cycle that has been evident from the earliest archaeological evidence.
My gripe is with the know it alls who apportion blame. You mention "fierce debate". To me, fierce debate is synonymous with doubt.

Thank you Paul.
A few years ago there were severe floods in parts of Germany... popularly attributed to mankind's intervention with nature. It was stated that they were the worst floods for 130 years...How many "Gas Guzzling 4x4s" (nauseating expression) were around 130 years ago? My local Green Party guru could not provide an answer.
There is no doubt either that mankind is not helping the climate change, but not to the degree that some would have us believe. I, for one, do not feel guilty.

I think it's all coming surreally close to the Pyton clan's film "Erik the Viking", where the island of Hy-Brasil slowly sank into the sea whilst disbelievers were still singing......

Or perhaps slowly engulfed by the rising waters, from the melting polar ice caps of course, whilst playing Steve's new C's, the production of which has surely contributed to out imminent demise; ah the irony.

Don't think iron is used in the production ?

Ban all cellos. They emit cellophane, which is useful for wrapping healthy things like cigarettes, but is very harmful to the atmosphere.
I was a pioneer in this movement and once punched Pablo Casals.

It suddenly dawned on me why the planet was such a warm place when the dinosaurs roamed it. They we all herbivores and produced copious amounts of greenhouse gas!

Of course human output of greenhouse gases is so bad that even Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and even poor little Pluto are warming at unprecidented rates!

..well, 'unprecedented' is a long word for a 'murkin, but, the limited spell-checker here does underline the "preci" spelling - so it must be affecting Wades eyesight as well ?

All of you people need joke threads. All except Captain Beeflat. I truthfully agree with all he has posted about this subject. (I never thought I would ever say that, but one never knows what will eventually come about). Cheers Bb for speaking against the majority.
