You have read my complaints about lack of rain here in Southern California; but this is getting ridiculous!
Off the coast of Mexico we have a Tropical Storm that is doing its best to become a cyclone (hurricane). The usual results of this type of activity are that moisture spins off of the storm and heads into Southern California, Arizona and New Mexico (as well as Baja California and the Mexican Mainland) lowering temperatures and spawning rain and thunderstorms. This typically brings relief from the high temperatures and raises the humidity dramatically.
This storm has indeed tempered our temperatures. As of 10:00 AM the temperature is only 72F (22C) with humidity at 61%. Typical for this time of year it should be about 86F (30C) with humidity around 15%. So, this moisture and cloud cover is welcome.
However, our much needed rain is only given a 10% chance of happening. We are expecting DRY thunderstorms! Just what we need, lightning striking our very dry vegetation with no rain to stop or contain any ensuing fires. Well, I guess I should prepare for a long, smokey fire season.
If only we could take some of the European or Texan deluge and water thirsty Southern California!

jb1 - I'm on safer ground with 'potty training', than I am commenting about global warming.....
It always amazes me (to follow Beeflats lead) that we still exist, living on a molten core, fuelled by a molten Sun.
I'm sure some unplanned (and un-thought of) natural phenomena will one-day wipe us all out - another planet out of orbit maybe - long before we all get severely warmed up.....
By the way, if anyone wants to know about global warming, greenhouse gas and the like - try this Childrens 'News' link, even I can understand it...

The 6 O'clock news tonight revealed that recent evidence shews that Great Britain was joined to Europe until 400K years ago. A huge lake existed to the north, which flooded due to rising water levels, which in turn, where the result of global warming.
Does that have a familiar ring?
Consequently,the English channel was formed.
Four hundred thousand years ago, no human life existed...draw your own conclusions...perhaps dinosaur farts were particularly rich in methane!
Not all bad news however...were it not for this event we would be French. Shame really, just a few millimetres more and both Scotland and Wales would have been isolated. :-))

jb1 - surprisingly, we do have more than one English Channel, but the language could be a problem for you guys...
A lot of world-wide TV is now available via the internet, especially the news - you will need a reasonably high speed internet connection tho'.
I'll extricate the laptop from under the pile of decaying saxes later, I have a link on there to a free website that gives access to loads of international channels.

Captain Bb. Are you an isolationist? (As per the Scotland and Wales remark). Since I am of Scottish descent. My feelings are hurt).

Another contrived word...isolationist. We really must develop some form of uninonanininimty :-)) between our respective countries.
History will shew you that we, the English, were at war with both France and Scotland for centuries, and some of the light hearted scars still remain; typified in the annual Calcutta Cup rugby match... fortunately we are able to laugh at ourselves. As for the Welsh; I am half Welsh and, apart from the mandatory terms at boarding school, it took me eighteen years to escape.
So, you are of Scottish decent... I feel certain that it will not blight your life. At least, we now know something about you. Pray reveal more.

I feel sure that you are sufficiently gracious to allow us the odd chuckle too.
We see a Country where two of the most prominent political roles are occupied by someone who is closely related to a chimpanzee and the other by an imported, semi-literate, muscle bound meathead...speaks volumes.

Castaway.
I am agog..I find it hard to concentrate; the anticipation consumes me. :-)
We all play the saxophone extremely well, and we guess that you are a citizen of the New World...surely there is more to you than that... even if it is making jam for the Womens' Institute. :-)

Hmmm - "semi-literate, muscle bound" and "chimp" ? How did Ronald Reagan get into this ?
No, I shouldn't really, Reagan was a good old guy behind all the confusion.... But somehow Dubya doing Reagan impressions doesn't work, no warmth !
Floods again in the UK, Wade... (which is what they're doing, wading !)
