It seems to me (if im looking at the posts in these topics) that only a few in here have read the Jihad book. Som my question is. Who have read it? Yoyr opinion about it (compareed to teh other preqs maybe) and are you going to read Machine crusade? (Yeah I know that there is one topic "The Jihad" about this, but still its long dead)
(Argh, please forum be alive... Oh by the way, when have anyone last heard a word form the Admin, is he never going to make somthing out of this homepage again?)

I've read it. I don't want to go into detail in case others haven't until we see what others say. I enjoyed it more than the other prequels. I think in this one they came closer to creating their own story that ties to the Dune storyline, not trying to force fit a story line to the events just prior to DUNE. There are some things that I have problems with, I'm not entirely sure BH/KA's take on a computer mind is on target. I will read the next two books, hopefully they pay good attention to the timeline outlined in DUNE to tie it all together.

I read the book when it came out. There were some discrepencies between what the original books said, and what this prequel said. Of course, since the stories have like 10,000 years between them, it's natural that some things might have been misremembered.
Anyway, I thought the story was ok. But I liked the House Atreides/Harkonnen/Corrino books a lot too. Unlike some of the hardcore Dune fans we find around here, I'm just happy to read more about Dune. Others can nitpick all they want, or complain about lack of complexity. I'll just be sitting there enjoying myself rather than complaining. :)

I read it, and liked it. I for one am curious to see the history of the Duniverse. Of course FH will never be matched, but I enjoy the prequels.

I agree with Thufir, wirm, and the mule on this one. The BJ is a good book, as the prequels go, but nothing will match the originals. I read the book when it first came out, and throughly enjoyed it. I am sure a lot of work went into it, seeing how long it is. Anyway, to answer DH's question, I plan on reading The MC and The Battle of Corrin (or whatever the title will be.) The BJ was certainly as good or better than all 3 of the House books, in my opinion...except maybe HC.
Oh, by the way, good question, DH Danmark.

It seems like most people thinks BJ is the best prequel , I think so myself. It could be that it is simply so much far from Dune classic that the discrepencies isnt so bad. Still I hate the sorcess wannabe BG's :-(
I really dont want magic in my Dunebooks.

i own the special edition dvd with which i think may be a version shown on tv rather than in the theatre. its realy irritating with this bloke doing the voice overs but it had a bit about the butlerian jahid in it which the original movie didnt. i only mention this as i wander how near the book this actualy was as i am a bit of a dune nerd.

I think this book absolute crap. It's simply just an average sci-fi story, that has no place in the Dune univers. I thought the 3 first prequels were rather good but this one with its spiderlike cyborgs...please.

I agree with Sniper, to the point that the story is rather average - but perhaps we can grow into this new setting and it's characters?
I liked the other prequels a lot! They where well written, and the characters were recognizable - and "old friends" to me :-)
Maybe machine crusade and the battle for corrin will put this book in another light...

yea I loved all the Prequels... Waiting for the next one.. what is that?? something about the Battle of Corrin.. Excellent books! highly recommended! I still found a few of the later ORIGINAL Dune books to be incredibly boring... but maybe because I read them around age 12-13.. I had a great friend of our family that passed away.. named Allen who was really into Dune, he was very intrueging as a person! well i'll probably never see this incerpt again in my life! ADIOs

I have read BJ and I thought it was really quite good. It is not the original Dune but it is good. I liked it as mush as the the other prequels. I am looking forward to reading the Machine Crusade and the Battle of Corrin.

I really loved BJ. I couldn't put it down once I started. It's not the same as the original Dune, but half of the experience was knowing where they ended up in the future, and recognizing the paths they go along. I can't wait to see what kind of conflict grows from BJ/MC to create the Harkonnen/Atredies feud. Perhaps Serena and Vorian marry?

I hate to break it to you Vorian but if Vorian and Serena married that would not be the cause of the Atreides Harkonnen feud. At the Battle of Corrin bridge a son of Xavier Harkonnen ran from battle opting to save himself than fight for the human race. The Atreides got the Harkonnens banished for this cowardice and that was how the Harkonnen vendetta against house Atreides was brought about. I also don't think Vorian and Serena would marry because for one thing at the end of BJ she lost interest in romantic relationships and just wanted to destroy the machines. Plus Vorian was given cell augmentation by Agamemnon so that he would live alot longer than any normal human being meaning he would outlive his grand children and i don't see why he would want to engage in that kind of relationship when he would outlive his own family, but than agian this is the Dune Universe so anything is possible.

If what Blade said about the Harkonnen-Atreides feud can be considered canon, it would have lasted over ten millenia. Therefore, the feud was awesome. :)

Guildsman in the Dune series it is said that is how the Atreides-Harkonen Feud started but I will have to read the Battle of Corrino to be sure
