believable characters is what seriously takes away the fun out of all the prequels. HC gives us characters that are over the top and one dimensional.

The only character that seems to receive some decent treatment is count Hassimer Fenring.

The Shaddam Corinno I read about in the original Dune novels is so far away from the Shaddam we see in the prequels, it ain't even funny!
He went from an Emperor to a maniacal villain with no real vision.

And when did Jessica fall in love with Leto? If it weren't for the characters dull, lifeless statements that they are in love with eachother, I'd say they were cousins or acquantances. There isn't any romantic tension between these two characters, nothing that indicates their love. The only thing that shows the reader that they love eachother is their word.
It's unnatural.

I'm dissapointed, very dissapointed.

I pretty much agree.

I agree as well... The House Atreides, Harkonnen, Corrino series was rather dull and the characters weren't developed well... It felt like reading any kind of sci-fi novel... It didn't have the same feel as the originals... Having finished reading the new prequel they must've learned from their mistakes cause Buterlian Jihad is much more enjoyable and it reads more like Dune then this trilogy (the House novels).

Son of Shai-Hulud, your post has been removed because of its inflamatory nature. You are invited to repost your opinion without dishing out broad insults.

I figured that the House trilogy couldn't show all the depths of Dune since it shows the characters at a relatively young age and there was a real need to keep everything in line with the characters. So Leto is a one dimensional hero whilst Harkonen and Shaddam are one dimensional villains. The only characters of interest were the secondary characters like Reverend Mother or Baron Harkonnen's brother.
