From Publishers Weekly
After two prequel trilogies to the legendary SF epic (the Legends of Dune and Prelude to Dune series), Frank Herbert's son Brian, in collaboration with Anderson, launch a new trilogy that takes up where Herbert Sr. left off with Chapterhouse: Dune (1985). This entertaining if over-the-top update begins three years after the refugee "no-ship," Ithaca, has fled Chapterhouse and the brutal Honored Matres, a corrupted faction of the all-female Bene Gesserit order led by Mother Commander Murbella. Duncan Idaho, Murbella's ex-love slave, guides the ship carrying reincarnated warrior Miles Teg, the dissident Rev. Mother Sheeana and 150 other refugees. While Murabella deals with violent rebels from within, another more sinister enemy, Omnius of the Synchronized Empire, secretly infiltrates the Honored Matres and other challengers with shapeshifting Face Dancers as he plots humanity's destruction and the ascendance of a civilization of machines. Using genetic material, the refugees begin recreating historical Dune legends, including Paul Muad'Dib and Lady Jessica, setting the stage for the long-foretold battle at the end of the universe. Herbert's ecological and religious concerns now seem oddly prescient, but this sizzling update, still filled with crazed women who sexually enslave men, sometimes borders on campy 1950s B-movie parody.

Okay, I was mildly looking forward to this book coming out (after giving up on the Butlerian Jihad trilogy after the first book), because it deals with the post-Chapterhouse story. But after this review confirms that Omnius will be the "bad guy" I'm not so sure anymore. And I agree with the review about Brian and Kevin's work being like a campy B-movie, especially because their characters are not fleshed out in the slightest. If someone is good, then they are 100% perfectly good, always moral, no gray area. If someone is bad, they like to kill without second thoughts, etc. At least Frank Herbert's characters had DEPTH!

Sadly, I'll probably end up buying the book anyway, just to see what they do with Duncan, Miles and the others.

I'm of the attitude that I'll wait and see the book before I judge it for myself, and I won't be expecting it to be of the standard of Frank, because it isn't written by Frank.

However, I wonder why it needs a Dune 'all stars' character lineup. Paul - maybe useful for his prescience (presuming they don't have Leto's cells). But what could Jessica possibly do to help the fight against Omnius. I've also read somewhere that a Chani ghola will be present, what could she possibly add to the story?

I've defended BH and KJA so far because I've read the BJ and it was far enough removed from the originals that it didn't matter, and I haven't read the House books. I hope I'm not forced to change my stance after Dune 7 is released. I remain positive.

I can see them returning Paul, the original KW, but
what can Dr. Yueh, an incompetent Mentat like Thufir, Chani, the Lady Jessica (who already
live amongst the current Bene Gessirit in other memory,) Stilgar and Vorian do that Miles, Duncan, and the other 100 or so Bene Gesserit can't?

Sounds like the Battle of the Network Stars.

Hm. Quite.

I often wonder what Frank was thinking by hiding that nullentropy capsule in Scytale.

My thoughts were that they would be used as a Tleilaxu bargaining chip, or maybe the Bene Tleilax had 'done something weird' to them.

Straightforward stuff is sooooooooo dull. A bogstandard character reunion... Yawn. As you say, Wormboy and Shinnok, there's little motivation for this to happen.
