I've just finished Brian Herbert & Kevin J. Anderson's Dune:House Atreides, and not really being a huge fan of the movie,( though I have read the the first three books, and The Chapter House)I loved it and found it very refreshing. I can't wait for the second book.House Atreides really got me into the "Dune" universe and I'm very thankfull that Kevin J. Anderson (one of my favorite Star Wars writters)was able to work on the project. Much praise for Brian Herbert as well. This book helped me make sence of the movie and the other books I've read. Thanks Guys!

I think I speak for most of us who would much rather have preferred good ol' Frank to have written the next installments into what is undoubtedly the most fantastic universe to ever find its way into the written word. Mr. Herbert's style could stab you like a hunterseeker with only a few selectively placed words, and so I suppose in reading House Atreides I came to expect the same gripping experience. I found myself picking fault with the manner in which the book was written, and had to overcome more than a few prejudices in attempting to compare House Atreides with the rest of the Dune novels. However, reading the book a second time did it the world of justice. I can now look towards a new chapter in the Dune saga with a fresh outlook and start on the path to learning more about my beloved universe. A fine piece of writting, even though there are certain discrepancies which I am sure everyone has noticed. All I can say for House Atreides is: "Give me Spice!....and lots more of it".

Surprisingly good, considering that Frank didn't write it. I'd read some of Brian Herbert's work and didn't consider it on par with his father's.
I enjoyed Kevin J. Anderson's Star Wars books; he and Brian seem well matched. Critics of this novel shouldn't expect a book as good as the original, it isn't fair to the authors who have done a better than anticipated job recreating the Dune universe.
