I haven't read all the notes here. Wondering if anyone noticed that in Dune the planetologist Kynes is not the first Dune plnetolgist. "It was the voice of his father who had been planetologist her before him - his father long dead killed in the cave-in at Plaster Basin"

I think BH and KA conveyed the term "Liet" as more of a title type thing.

No. Pardot Kynes, Liet's father, was in fact the first Imperial Planetologist to Arrakis. Liet was born of his union with a Fremen woman and remained with the Desert People after his death to continue the great dream...

Well said, Margo. Pardot Kynes was indeed the father of Liet Kynes and the first Imperial Planetologist to Dune.

Yes, and 'Liet' was named after 'Uliet' - the Fremen warrior who chose not to kill Pardot and kill himself instead in order to let him live...

Absolutely. Didn't Uliet mean "Older Liet" or something? :)

I remember in Dune, when Liet was sent to the desert to die, he mentioned his father, and how he spoke in botonical terms.
