I have been an early advocate of this book for a movie or mini series.

other than the difficulty of creating a huge worm, i think it's the book most adaptable for the screen. also, aside from it being the culmination of the series, it happens to be my favorite because there is so much philosophical musing.

It would be a great mini, but I think most of the philosophy would be cut out. If Sci-Fi's handling of Farscape and the now dreadful Taken is any indication of their artistic direction. But, here's to hoping! I didn't really enjoy the first Dune mini, I prefer the film, not so much for the plot, but visually I found it much more interesting. I'm very glad I gave Children of Dune a chance. They did a magnificent job of merging the two books. Well worth the wait.

I'm not sure it could be done for TV or a movie. It's true that there is action and adventure but the book is alomost one man's manifesto of religion and phylosophy. I'm not thinking it's marketable to general tv.

I think the hardest part is conveying the mental images and visions, Leto sees naturally, and eventually the actor James McAvoy, would have to pull off his finest acting skills inside of a huge
Jabba-the-Hut Sandworm suit. The screenwriter would have to keep it a personal struggle to maintain control over the eons, the direction of humankind's evolution along the Golden Path.
I bet he could, he was outstanding.

If there is a GEOD mini-series, I hope James McAvoy will play Leto again. Given that so many of us have made the James-Leto connection and the setup courtesy of Ghanima's last lines, I for one, would not be as emotionally touched by another actor.

What wouod be the use if they cut out the philosophy?

I agree that it would be difficult and my biggest fear as that they will eliminate the message of Leto and shoot for the triangle between Duncan, Hwi and Leto. That would really annoy me. As for shooting it, just film the scenes with James McAvoy elevated above the actors, arms and face. They can add the worm digitally. I have no doubts technically they can pull it off, if they wanted to.

They could clump with anther book again.

Not this time...

the next book after "GEoD" is "Heretics of Dune". That takes place thousands of years after "God Emperor"...

I can see why people without imagination want movies made out of great books. But for those of us who actually enjoy reading the books over and over again, making another movie will only lead to a another dissapointment. The mystery surrounding these books should be cherished instead of exploited!!

i went to the scifi channel site and they said they were working hard to put it into a visual work but that due to much of the inactivity and lack of action they were having difficulty translating it into visuals. I am pulling for GEoD so much though. It was a great book and would make a great movie. It represented a very pivotal time in the series

I just hope that if they make it that desert mouse makes another appearance....captivating special effects there that puts The Matrix to shame. You can hardly even tell that it isn't real.

Alia, could you provide a link to where you found that info on the Sci-Fi Channel? I looked but I couldn't find anything like that.

Don't hope for exesive SFX. They tend to lower the greatness. Plot and story make a good show.

Guys, let's get serious. The miniseries have been fun so far I guess, despite a few glaring errors that have pissed me off, but I doubt anyone expects them to be "good." Stylistically, they have nothing to do with the books. I say let them make another; it certainly can't be any worse than the original.
