If you were stranded on a desert island, what books would you most like to have with you?

"How to survive on a lonely island" or something along these lines.
Little Herber`t's "House" series. (I need something to get that fire started.)
Playboy Collection (Hey, it`s lonely)
And finally, "How to escape from a lonely island".

Robin: Too bad the Gilligan Island clan didn't have your forethought!
Dune (obviously), a minimally abridged version of the Bible, The Lord of the Rings series, and the Complete Idiot's Guide to Surviving on a Lonely Island (I need things explained to me in pictures!)

I would want all the Dune books, including the prequels. I would also take FH's Destination: Void and its sequels, anything I could get by Bernard Cornwell (the Sharpe series, etc.), the Dragonlance Chronicles & Legends Trilogies, Moby Dick, Huckleberry Finn, Wuthering Heights and some Faulkner to try and figure out.

That’s a very good selection you have there, Thufir.
Myself I particularly like Destination: void + 3 sequels.
I have read a Sharpe book (Sharpe’s Tiger) and it was very good.

I really feel that Destination: Void and its sequels are on par with Dune.
Cornwell rights great historical fiction and always makes me want to explore more of the real history behind his stories.

Apologize for the last post. Of course Cornwell writes not rights. D'oh!

1. Ok, the Lord of the Rings to put me to sleep.
2. When I wake up again, I gotta have something good to read, so I will read the 9 Dune Books.
3. When I am done with them, I will read The White Plague.
4. Now, hopefully I will find my way off this island.....:-D

Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth... okay, all the books of the Bible :)
Nothing has anywhere near the replay value of the Bible. I might have "The complete works of Shakespeare" and/or some large history tomes - on a lonely island I might have the time and patience to read them.
Oh, and "Escaping a lonely island, with bonus attached extra-handy survival and escape kit" :)

Good choices, Nora! Ah, you like The White Plague, too!
Taqwa! : I bought the complete works of Shakespeare, and never read it. :-) One day..
Thufir - I agree. I don’t understand why they don’t reprint Destination: void and its sequels (perhaps in a box set?)

My dear Feyd 01, (sorry about the Baron impersonation!;))what a great idea. Hopefully the Herbert estate will come to this realization. I don't see how they can't since they are already reprinting several other FH works.

LOL, I like the Baron impersonation, Thufir! :-)
Next time Brian Herbert does an “online Chat” I’m going to put it to him. I’m going to demand they be reprinted! :)
Nora: “Hellstrom's (horrifying ;) Hive”.....LOL is also my favorite! I like a bit of horror in my sci-fi! Hehehe!
? : Yes, the Stand is a classic,
Nora again: I REALLY like The White Plague, too. it sort of shows the possible roots of the Bene Gesserit?

Re: Destination: Void, et al.
This is why I never throw out, exchange, donate or loan out books I enjoy...too many good ones are hard to find or aren't in print. Example: I still have my college copy of the complete works of Shakespeare, too, not having opened it in 20 years. Needless to say, the moving companies hate me.
