Dune vs The Lord of the Rings? Anybody? Actually, let's make this more interesting: Dune vs The Lord of the Rings vs The Stand vs The Princess Bride vs Harry Potter? You can add Star Wars to that list as well if you like. Any thoughts? You don't have to have read all these books to contribute to this topic.

I once lost two pairs of silk boxer shorts under very mysterious circumstances. I can only sympathise, Mr Pants.
Nora: I *still* can't get into LOTR. I've tried and tried, but I just don't give a damn about anything that happens in it. It's like reading a sort of travel brochure - there's no interdependence of environment, characters and events... And the ruddy singing all the time...
The Space Odyssey books were fantastic, though! ;)

Anyway, I found my pants. You'll be glad to know.
I've always wanted to read the Space Odyssey books as I'm a huge fan of the film. I'll have to read them.
...the singing in LOTR...who strangled the cat, man.

Agreed, Mr Pants and Dog! The best part of the Hobbit is when it says "The End"!!! (Well, it doesn't actually say that, but you get the idea!!)
It's too bad Smaug couldn't have eaten Bilbo so we wouldn't have to put up with that corny singing the whole book! I flipped through my copy of The Hobbit and on almost every page I turned to, there was singing of some strange sort!!! Enough crappy singing is enough!!!!

Mr Pants: Well done on the underwear recovery (unless you are from the States, in which case 'pants' means 'trousers' and I've utterly misunderstood you... ;)
Re: Singing... I too say 'No!' to authors trying to sing in their books! We must gather together stop this godawful trend... Could you imagine BH and KJA doing it?...
" Oooh wah baby,
Burning throo the desert, yeah,
In my Ornithopter...
D'ya wanna see my Worm, babe?!?!
I'm your Sand Warrior...
...etc."
The possibilities scare me.

I always thought that pants meant underwear/panties in other parts of the world and now I have proof.

LOL!!! That's actually very good. I particularly like "D'ya wanna see my worm, babe?!?!" I was referring to my underwear, my pants. (You're right the yanks prob. thought I meant trousers) Hey! I've just thought of some more lyrics:
"Shai-hulud is in my pants, baby
He ain't no Little-Maker
Come and taste the Water of Life"
Or:
"I'll show you the Weirding way, baby!
I'll teach you about Water discipline, girl!"
Yes, yeah - that's the chorus. I think we've got the chorus. Where's Gurney?

Gurney's backstage with some groupies. One of them looks suspiciously like Jessica.

Gurney! I'll smash that Baliset over your head! No more groupies!
Gurney: Yes, m' Lord.
Mr pants: And...Jessica?
Gurney: ...Jessica? Sire, I...
Mr Pants: Don't 'Sire, I' me, Gurney. She's hoovering up everything in sight. Like there's no tomorrow.
Jessica: Gurney...Sing me a lay, Gurney...I...yeah.

PLEASE, don't give BH & KJA anything to think about! They're probably taking your idea right now and sending another rewrite to the publishers just to put some singing in it!! Good lyrics, though, gents. I must give you credit for that.

Hey! Mabye if BH and KA are really dense they'll copy the words out of The Lord of the Rings for their books!!! Bilbo could become a character, like the Baron!!!! JK!!!!!! Well, they are probably working really hard on the Jihad right now, and adding the melodious singing Dog and Mr Pants cooked up!!!!!!! (For Gurney and Jessica to do a duet on)

Thanks Anniscousin. Nora: Maybe Gurney and Jessica could do a duet of 'Why do fools fall in love' etc.

Mr. Pants: LOL!!!
Or, they could sing a Britney Spears song like Oops, I Did It Again. It could be like:
Oops, I did it again
I played with a worm,
Got lost in the sand,
Oh baby, baby
Crappy, I know, but what can you expect from Britney Spears!! (and my corny composing!)
