Hey everyone...just a thought. (also want to get this going.)
Has anyone other than pinkey & the brain SEEN FHs notes. I mean it sounds like a great way to have people like this new dune book. IE: we think the ideas are FHs, so automatically they're good.
I'm not saying the Prequils are bad, but they are NOT Dune. The style is totally different, and they take all this stuff from Dune and so "No, that was invented a mellinia earlier."
**(Pease note that I have not been following the blog for a while so i'm a little out of date.)**

The prequils were written from the notes, by 2 different people. It doesn't feel like FH because it wasn't written buy FH.
I've seen the deleted chapters in Road to Dune, and am begining to really think the notes are there.

I saw the notes. They were in the net that Duncan saw at the end of CH. If you concentrate hard enough and smoke a little cinnimin, you can see them too.

P&TB claim on the blog that their publishers and proofreader have seen the _outline_.
Oh yeah, and the FH's lawyer who found them in the safe deposit box.
Except for the first of the Prelude series, the prequels were based on a box of character sketches and background history notes BH found in his garage, and their imagination. Things such as Erasmus are admittedly the author's creation.
That is completely differt than Frank Herbert handing you a complete, detailed _Dune 7_ outline and all you have to do is flesh it out.

Too bad they can't even do that.

Indeed. Still, let's wait untill their done before really judging the work. They seem to do a good job for modern writers. But we are used to old time writing.

If they didn't want us to judge it early they shouldn't release chapters before it's published.

They're testing... I think we've made them a bit insecure.

GOOD!
Anyone attempting to extend Frank Herbert's work should be.
IMO you've gotta have balls the size of church bells to put your name on a Dune book.

IMO Brian Herbert is greedy to the point of blasphemy. Blasphemy because he is destroying his father's legacy chasing a buck. Greedy becasue he knew the task was quite beyond him, in that intangible way that distinguishes the genius from the mundane. As for He Who Loves Writing Other People's Stories, I have nothing to say.

I had hopes they might turn things around but boy was that tough to read...

"Why ask a man who is already lost to lead you? Why then are you surprised if he leads you nowhere?"
-- Duncan Idaho, A Thousand Lives
Duuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
When I read that, I knew something was horribly wrong with Dune7...

Second chapter you say? Well, if a crowd can form around a tragic car crash, I guess I can try to see this next horror. I really dread this though, but I gotta see.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Here goes...

HA! An oracle no doubt! I wonder if she will have cookies or candy...
Our great warrior-Mentat Duncan really threw out the wisdom, didn't he? Such profound observations he had about the other passengers on the no-ship. Multiple lives upon multiple lives, and that was all he could say about them? I would have expected some deeper insights...
I hope all that reverie about Murbella has a purpose. I hope it wasn't just filler material, because it sounded like an adolescent missing his girlfriend. Oh yeah, I forgot: the new crowd. (Oracles, and longing for lost love. That'll get the kids.)
I guess I'll keep up with the car wreck anyways. I'm a Dune fan afterall, so the few small little treasures will have to do. It may not be the sparkling gold from FH, but any bit of shine will do at this point...

And, sure enough, the unimaginitive, old, so often repeated in the prequels, xxxxx within xxxxx within xxxxx.

If I pay for something, whether it’s coffee, a sandwich or a book, I have the right to complain if I don't like it; it's not bitching. But, T.I.l., the Irish Leprachaun; I'm glad to see you so proudly wear your collar.

enter the next phase? are u serious? are you a fan? just because one out of the 3 chapters didnt stink the whole place up, does that mean the whole shebang is acceptable as the next phase? there are fans out there who are writing better and more acceptable material than those other guys. just because Darryl and Darryl have their hands on the direction of the series, doesn't mean that what they do is truly canon. not to a real fan.
only FH was capable of initiating the Duniverse, and the readers' and fans' imaginations have helped to "thicken it", and have helped to sustain it. what existed in FH's mind we were fortunate enough to be able to share, and enjoy. any fan that knows a whit of Dune, can certainly choose to accept or reject any of the new stuff individually.
I'll prob. read the new books though, to see for myself what ideas are there and where the story may have gone if, if, if... and to grab any lil nuggets they may throw out. I think that IF there are notes and IF the writers have used them at all, I may be able to figure out which ones are FH's and feel my way around to them. FH's genius is hard to hide, and his ideas may stick out. Sometimes you have to look through the weeds to find the rose...
