Who else is getting really excited about the new mini?

I'm getting excited. But, I wish they'd refrain from changing the cast around like this. I thought the first Jessica-unfortunately, I forget her name-was just fine...
Duncan too...
What's next?
A new Chani and a new Irulan?

I understand what you mean.
There is a new Stilgar cast as well, but they haven't released the name yet.

Oh Crikey...
Y'know, the reason THIS is happening is because the first Mini was so successful that TPTB can hire bigger names this time-success means bigger budget, and bigger budget ALWAYS translates into bigger names. In this case, it ain't neccessary. But they're gonna do it anyway...
Grrr...

I understand your feelings.
Where were all the stars, when Harrison announced he was doing the first miniseries?

Indeed.I can say that one of the strong points of the mini were the actors mostly unknowns ( except for the Emperor and Baron Harkkonen). This is a totaly unnecesary recasting.Specialy recasting Duncan.tha actor that played Duncan read the Dune novels up to God Emperor. He understands Duncan.Very unfair.Lets see what transpires.Scifi channel should Know better. If Dune mini was their highest rating show to date, DO NOT FIX WHAT IS NOT BROKEN!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree. The acting in the mini was what made it a show of poor quality. I think that maybe with some better actors we might get something we can be proud of. I for one look forward to seeing how these changes pan out.

I know there's a lot of disagreement as to the quality of the miniseries, and I think that the one thing we all have to remember is that they aren't in any way *deleting* what is already there.
I agree with Dream that the acting wasn't awesome, but it certainly wasn't helped by budgetry constraints, either! If the acting is so-so, then it will just look worse on unconvincing desert backdrops.
BTW, can we have a new Gurney as well?
Oh, and Stilgar needs long hair and a beard, like in the illustrated edition of Dune...

...Hang on, just though of something else that might be relevent.
No matter how good an actor is, if he's wearing a silly hat the acting always looks worse. Maybe some costume changes might be in order too!

We all know TPTB will change the cast...and change it yet again...But the one thing they will absolutely refuse to change will-of COURSE!!-be the costumes...

In this point I agree. The Bene Geserets and Saudukar uniforms were totaly wrong. This is a point that everybody has to agree.See Lynchs Dune and compare.DL Dune costumes were awesome.Lets see what happens in this respect in the next Mini.

True. While I have deep and abiding issues with Mr Lynch over little things like "weirding modules", his costumes were exactly as the book described them. When I looked at Leto I, Jessica, and Paul as they were preparing to leave Arrakis, they looked perfectly like a royal family from the late nineteenth century. Even to Leto carrying a smell lapdog. That whole particular image was absolutely perfect.
Unlike the mini with its New Age take on what was Haute Coutere for Imperial-and "merely" noble families...
Someoneplease give these royal persons just a little common sense-not to mention good taste-in Royalwear...

About the Stilgar actor (Uwe Ochsenknecht) He's pretty famous here in Germany, and might be known to the international public from his performance in Wolfgang Petersen's "Das Boot".
I actually liked his performance in the miniseries, but the general acting was kwite poor. :)

Ahhhh.... I seeee....
I do agree with you on his performance, though. Definitely one of the better actors.
Still, on the costumes front, I spose fashions will probably change between Dune and CoD. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing some early 80's creation, so maybe high fashion in Cod will be a bit more Lynchian... Here's hoping, anyway.
Besides, Star Trek series have differing costumes and uniforms, and Will Riker occasionally has a beard ;)

Hang on, wasn't Jurgen Prochnow (the actor who played Leto in Lynch's Dune) also in Das Boot?

Indeed. He has also been on The Seven Sign (he played a great part but I will not say who was his character just in case anybody decides to see it) and Judge Dreed.

I too thought the costumes were true to the book in David Lynch's movie, but the castles and all the rooms were dark and dreary. According to the prequels, Castle Caladan is a bright, happy place. I liked the mini-series better than the first movie. Some of the headdresses in the mini series were pretty far out. I think the mini-series had a better Jessica, Paul, Gurney, Thufir, and Duncan. By the way Vandevere, Saskia Reeves played Jessica. I thought she was great in the mini-series. William Hurt didn't resemble Leto like Jurgen Prochnow did according to the prequels, but he was still a good Leto. He's cool. Since I read HA, HH and HC, i'm re-reading them. I notice a lot of details I missed. See ya,
