I recently became involved with the Sampson Air Force Base Veterans Association. Sampson AFB was an Air Force Basic Training Base from 1950 to 1956. I know that a lot of people from the New England area went through their initial training at Sampson in upper New York State. If anyone is interested in getting any information on this Association and possibly locating some old buddies from that era, - the web site is SamAFBvet@aol.com. Check it out. Old memories will come surging back!

I was in Flight 2861 Oct-Dec 1953. I would be interested in finding anyone who was in this flight. That would be interesting after all these years.

My husband was stationed at Sampson Air Force base. We lived in Geneva,NY. Our son was born at the Base hospital September 1954.
My husband was a staff sgt.
He passed away this year very suddenly in March.
We enjoyed our time in Geneva and our fun times at Seneca Lake.

Hello Alice. My condolences to you on the loss of your husband. What was his job at Sampson? I was only there for basic training and a short stay in the hospital for dental work. I retired from the Air Force in 1977 after 22 years as a Master Sergeant.

My husband had training in NY then VA. Then went to Germany and then on to Sampson Air Base for two years. He was with a group and was called a surveyor. They were surveying land on the base. We lived in Geneva for two years from 1953-1955. We lived on Lyceum Street in Geneva.
We laughed on a Sunday and my husband was found by me on Monday morning dead in his Lazy boy chair. It was the last week in March . What a shock !
But I have found great friends in Corinna in the 10 years we have been here. So I guess I will stay here at lest for a year.

Hello again, Alice. I was also stationed in Germany. My family and I were at Hahn Air Base for 6 years from 67-73. I was in Air Weather Service and worked in the Base Weather Station. We had the opportunity to go back to Hahn (now a civilian airport) in 2004 for a visit and renewed a lot of friendships with the people in the village that we lived in.
