SO. Not too many months ago, I was placed into the Sales queue at my job. I was really nervous as to whether I'd be any good at it... but ended up surprising myself (and no doubt my sup) LOL. I thought that I'd have to be evil and heartless to really make a go of it, but such was not the case... now I've been "recommended" by my new sup (the old one I liked got FIRED a month ago) to join the Retention team. Apparently she thinks I'll be a success at it. Or maybe she's pissed that I took a week off work due to that bronchitis I had around Thanksgiving and is just trying to ditch me? O_o

Anyhoo. Now I get to go from selling people services that they'll enjoy, to trying to manipulate people into keeping services they want to discontinue. Need I say I have vast reservations about this change? Any input??

Grr@Flint... I've never been a telemarketer!! But even they need love too!! Unless they're calling my house at 9pm and totally mangling the pronunciation of my name. Or worse, calling me by Scott's last name.

I have a choice. Can even go back into Sales if I absolutely canna stand it... I'm just kind of nervous, is all. Thanks for the insights, ppl =D

Is this a promotion or just a different job on the same level? You're lucky you have a choice. I'm getting shifted from my happy corner at my firm, and no one to give a rat's ass if I like it or not. >:/

It's kinda sorta BOTH. Retention (LMAO I can't say that without first thinking ANAL!!) is a new department and is the Management's baby that can do no wrong. Whatever they need or want - they get... the actual job will be slightly elevated, but not enough to be formally termed a promotion. I'll have the opportunity to make extra commissions that the rest of the reps in the call center aren't able to, and will be able to offer special rates and promos to customers that I presently can't. And it's locked in now for January 1st - I told DeeDee (the sup) that I wanted in. =)

The boss is still a very nice man. He took me out for lunch yesterday. Good pasta! Anyhoo, he has resigned from our firm and is off to work for as an in-house consultant at a title insurance company and I'm sort of left in a limbo. We already have a new real estate lawyer, and she has already been assigned a certified law clerk. I go a job searching this holiday season, oh joy!

Good luck with yours. I'm sure you can wrestle that challenge down and make it eat mud. :)
