It's my understanding that certain headers won't allow plug changes with any ease. Has anyone bolted on headers that allow easy plug changes?
1973 Nova Custom - stock 350
Tips on performance HP boltons would help also. We have a dual plane Edelbrock Preformer intake and are planning on a 600 cfm Edelbrock carb soon!

Brain,
I wish I could remember who made my headers now, I want to say Cylclone but not sure.
As for the HP bolt on's, try A recurve kit in the Distibutor, If your Running HEI Set up, use a one light and one Med. spring in it, As for as Edelbrocks, I was never Impressed with there Provormance items. I run a Holley Street Dominator signal Plain Itake with a Holley 750 Duelfeed carb, that works real well with headers and about any cam you put it them.
Set your time up with the offset key-way gear/chain, set it to advance the cam, this DOES help Low end power a bunch.
If you have a Hydr Cam, set your rocker arms about 1/4 to 1/2 turn, they don;t have to be 3/4 turn, I have twisted 7,000 out of 1/4 tirn rocker set with out any flooting of valves.
Bolt on Pully sets with a smaller Crank Pully is another one you can try.
Hope this helps.

Brian,

I am using Flowtech headers on my '78 Nova, and had no problems with plug changes. I use a Weiand Stealth dual plane manifold with a Holley 650 DP with mechanical secondaries on my 406 small block. Works great with my combo. I will be trying a Holley 750 vac. secondary this summer and see if any gains can be made. I use a March underdrive pulley system, and have no complaints about it at low rpms or idle. I am using a 100 amp truck alternator that works well at low rpms, and have the big-block alt. mounting brackets to make it all line up right.

I think I have a Holley double pumper lined up for the dual plane intake. Also picked up a set of Hooker headers to get te flow going. As soon as I get done with the headliner and packege tray, I'm going to start on the headers

Thanks for the input!

Brian,
I'm running a 600 Edelbrock carb, and I'm real happy with it. Makes good power, without overloading the motor. Have it on a Performer RPM intake. Would like to try a Holley DP someday, just to see the difference.
I'll go along with the distributor recurve idea.
Timing is everything. Just try advancing yours to just below the detonation point and see how it responds. I'm running a Unilite dist.. Would like to know if anybody has recurve one yet?
Good luck on your project.

Brian, I have Hooker Competition Headers on a 350. I have to pull the header to change the plug in #6 hole. My car is a 72. I don't have any problem on the Left (Drivers side) even with the power brake booster. Damn #6 is a total pain. I paid $255.00 to have them ceramic coated, so I'm stuck with them. I used soft aluminum reuseable gaskets. Good luck , Rick

Hi Rick,

What's the number on your headers for your '72 from Hooker? I will be wary of these in the future. I have heard rumours of the "dreaded #6"...but never had a chance to hear the real truth.
After spending $ to put them in ceramic...what a drag.
Thanks for the info. Rick

Brian, I bought the headers from Summit, the part number is HOK-2451. What do you here about the Hedman headers? Good Luck,Rick
