I'm so tired of hearing my friends talk about taking T3's or percs as if they're mainlining heroin. One of my buddies even bitched to me about feeling sick after taking too many 10 mg oxy's.

"Wow you took HOW MANY t3's? ... Sissy."

"Oh poor baby did you get the sniffles after? Fuck you you don't know shit."

Is what I said to him... in my head.

In all seriousness, it's weird reflecting on my experiences now because of how bad shit got eventually. But on the bright side I think the situation scared me straight and I don't even want to go down that road again. Being sober does suck though and alcohol doesn't really fill that void.

Now tell me about your experiences with opiates so I can judge you like a pretentious opiate aficionado.

Being sober doesn't suck. How about accepting the challenge that is attaining mental and bodily happiness using thought, achievement and activity? If there's a void there where substance used to be, try filling it with other good stuff Koosh! (at least I think that's who I'm talking to, I can't quite see all the way down there from my high horse)

That's good advice man and I guess I'm kind of doing that already. Things like changing careers, moving to a new place, planning to eventually start a business.. all that stuff is exciting enough that in a way it is filling that void.

I realize that by good stuff you probably also meant music, girls and things like that. All of which are also great

Condescension aside, leaving the circumstances - in which drugs were the best thing in your life - behind, is probably the smartest way forward as it limits the likelihood of being tempted to get back into it. Books, music and women are probably the 3 greatest things for making a man feel good both generally, and about himself. Also there's something to be said for building a life that you're proud of - be proud of how you look, how you live, how you eat and how you act. Be dignified, be the kind of person others admire, be a man. You're all three, mate! Congrats.

I actually do run and it works. I love it.

I'm thinking of training for a marathon (or a half) to keep me busy. I've also been doing more intense but shorter intervals at the gym and that's pretty great too.

I'll check out that book

BTW can you recommend some good new bands that I would like if I'm into Muse and Radiohead?

I really want to do a full in the spring but it depends on the mood of my knee.  My first half was incredibly rewarding.

Do you have Spotify Koosh? If not, I recommend it - there's a great "Discover" section that recommends things based on what you've been listening to, and creates playlists/radio stations of similar artists. Best of all, you don't have to download anything - it just streams from their server on your computer or phone if you pay for the premium service. Which is awesome.

The premium service is about $10/month but it means you won't ever have to download an album again. I used it every day.

It's not available in canadia icon_frown

Weird that you get it and we don't. There's probably a different service provider that does it here I'm guessing

I used opiates in various forms and degrees for about ten years, on and off.  My venture into that wonderful world started in high school when I would buy Vicodin from a girl.  She used to steal it from her dad.  I loved how they made me feel all warm and fuzzy mellow, and the physical sensation was great.  The best way I can describe it is waves of pure pleasure washing over one's body.  I started doing them more regularly and years later I moved on to snorting Roxycontin, and then smoking heroin.  All that shit was gross to the max.  I'm lucky I never got caught.

Two years ago I just decided I was done and it was time to grow the fuck up, and I've been opiate free ever since.  I also haven't taken a sip of booze in almost three years.  I feel way better now.

I've never been into drugs, but I had two instances of missing time after being drunk around the holidays. I decided to give up drinking for 30 days (which started Jan 6) and it's been incredibly easy. I may not start again. People can be a bit annoying asking me why not and applying a little pressure, but I'm strong enough to say no and don't really enjoy the taste of alcohol anyway.

Now if I tried to give up sugar for 30 days, that'd be a challenge.

spent a month in alaska bombed out on oxys and hydros after I managed to bullshit a few prescriptions together. eventually started hearing things and got really depressed that I spent a month accomplishing nothing with my life and stopped.

fuck opiates, I'll stick with psychedelics if I want to feel warm and fuzzy.

Yeah Koosh.  I wouldn't change a thing, though.  I learned tremendously from it.

Capn, I've never felt warm and fuzzy from psychedelics.  I really like the physical sensations that mushrooms give me, though.  I feel lighter than air.
