Just post things that you think would generally make Uberbot better whether it's bringing back some old commands from v. 1 or getting rid of some commands or bringing up new commands. A third bot is in the making right now (though we're working on the framework first) so any suggestions will be considered when the coding of the new bot is being done.

GO.

Remove the user levels.

The point of user levels is to keep people from abusing the bot and to keep non-ops from using op-type commands. It's also supposed to keep people like you, who are not only hostile but love to accuse moiph and I of conspiracy every five seconds, from using the bot.

a.k.a. exert control over the other chat patrons

It's also good to see you're taking the appropriate steps to repair your image.

Why did it take me four years to complain about user levels?

It hasn't.  I've complained about them before.

I'll give an unrelated scenario to explain the user levels.

In other channels, UB2R-B0T is opped so all of his commands are accessible (the ChanServ won't let him do certain things without an op status, such as setting voice etc). The commands are made so that it's easier for ops to do things without messaging the ChanServ about it. However, if those are commands, then anyone can use them. The way to prevent normal users from giving themselves op status is by making a level requirement to use the command. So, by default, ops are level 5 and can use these types of commands for UB2R-B0T. Other people are level 1 and thus cannot kick people or give themselves op without an op doing it for them. There were issues with people trying to use the bot to give themselves operator status and it made several channels' staff annoyed. The function is meant to not be controlling.

Right now, we're setting people in PGF to default to level -1 and the rule in the channel is that you must be registered in the first place to use the bot. You guys are the first of two channels to actually get the bot back, so we're being careful. If we see that people aren't being jerks or trying to abuse the bot we'll put them up to level 1.

In theory though, with Uberbot version three we could just make it so that there are three levels and the levels are automatically set. Ops are automatically the "op" level, moiph the creator is obviously in total power or the bot, and regular non-opped users are just normal level one. Without levels, anyone would be able to use any command including some test ones and function ones that are meant for moiph's use only. With a set-up like I just mentioned, perhaps you would feel it was less biased.

Thank you for writing that out.

I agree that there must be a filtering of commands for use of the programmer / individuals who are traditionally channel operators / registered accounts.  My gripe is with filtering of individuals who are "not allowed" to use the bot at all, for whatever reason (i.e. level -1).

If someone is using the bot in a way to be annoying, that should be up to the channel operators to deal with.  But in general, my thoughts are if you're going to make the bot available to a room, it should be available to everyone who can access the room.

Yeah, but on the other side of the same coin, that would mean that two people could ruin it for an entire channel. What ops do most of the time the bot is being abused is silence the bot and we got tired of having the bot silenced over and over again in certain channels. While we're not going to unset the default -1 level in PGF, we will try and make people level 1 who ask to be that level. It's just a matter of who asks.

Unfortunately we can't do that without hacks icon_frown
