Hey everybody, just got an old sax off EBay and I'm wondering if there's a website with a nice step-by-step guide to taking apart and putting together a sax (along with checking springs, rods, pads, etc..). I also have to say fantastic website, tons of info and great people!

Gigging tonight at a working men's club and no doubt there will be bingo! It tickles me to see how everywhere goes quiet for the 'holy' bingo. The band will have to leave the room to carry on with our jokes and banter. I'll have a Fender strat 6 string sax, harmonicas and my latest overhauled Conn 10M tenor with new Java T45 mp...a great step up from my plastic Yamaha 5c mp.

Was out with a Soul band last night, funny how a club fills up for all this "Bingo" and "key to the box" and "meatdraw", but when the band goes on, no matter how good they are, the dance floor clears and the drunks try and dance on the tables ???????

As I thought...there were interminable sessions of Bingo with everyone rooted to their seats all night. "Eyes down. Look in. All the threes thirty three".
Deano: No hand rails needed on the table tops last night.

Reminds me of some miners clubs we used to play at in the North. In the middle of one number, literally everyone left.

We carried on playing to an almost empty club. At the end, when the club steward (i.e. manager) paid us, he said "Don't take it lersonally lad, last bus leaves at 10:15...."

No answer to that !

CmelodyMan, there's loads more info out on the internet. Plus you can download that repair manual and save it locally, I notice people copy it to CD and charge up to $10 on ebay for the same thing..... Or even for a printed copy !

I won't be offended by you calling it 'your' Repair Resources page. Just glad to be of assistance.

Ohhh Deano. Don't remind meabout the bingo!
Yet there was a gig recently where a Liverpool Football shirt, signed by the players was a prize for a fund raising competition. When the winner was called out it was my name! I had so much wanted to win and give the shirt to my son.

Hello Everyone!
I have been enjoying with flourish all your back and forth banter. I am in the business of buying and selling collectibles/antiques/anything on Ebay and just aquired a clarinet that needs refurbished. I also have a Vito alto saxaphone that I bought for my ex-boyfreind that I'd like to sell but needs some work according to my local music store. I don't care about the clarinet--paid $25 but I know I dished out $450 for the sax and am reluctant to pay $325 for refurbish just to turn around and sell it for 5-600. Am thinking about trying to tackle it on my own. Which should I ruin first? Any suggestions for guides besides those that you gave to FluteRyan? Thanks so much. Julia

Julia - I would recommend that you go to Steve Goodson's site www.SaxGourmet.com and read the articles about repair. You may find that an overhaul is worth the money. The $325 is a good deal, but you might have a hard time selling the Vito for $800 or more to recover your investment.

But if you want to do it yourself, I would recommend the clarinet first. Afterall, you only have $25 in to it, so as long as you are careful and don't destroy its looks, it will always make a good lamp!
