We've been there, done that, got the tee-shirt (and the scars), and if Jeff is happy being Jeff - I'll change my name back to 'alan (uk)'. And, incidentally, I think you'll find someone else here objected to my national pride in having a 'uk' suffix...... The response to that is unprintable, and I'd have to delete myself ! So, onwards and upwards, as we used to say at West Point.. Ken - would that be stereo (C90, C120) cassettes, or the bulky four-track things ?

Ken uk User ID: 1689844	May 17th 4:33 PM Alan: I believe the Tascam 8 track uses both sides of the tape and isn't in the slightest bit under the influence of red wine or acrimoninitational bias with regard to direction of ,,,,,oh this is silly. I still like the tape player in my car and I don't want to convert to digital TV either. CD will not last. They too easily damage, make a mess when they are out of their cases and copies don't play properly. 20th century rules ok!

Captain Muggles User ID: 8945823	May 17th 8:36 PM Ken uk...Tascam never made an 8 track cassette recorder. Only a 4 track. They did make an 8 track reel to reel analog recorder that used 1/2 inch reel to reel tapes. Nevertheless. I get your drift. CD's are not for you. That's OK. I only offer advice on these recording and technical things because I use the latest techniques in my own life on the job (musician) because 80% of my gigs are solo gigs where I carry an average of about $25,000.00 worth of equipment and musical instruments (including PA and specialty gear) such as sequencers, keyboard, Tascam mini-disc recorder/player, Digitech HM5 five part harmony machine and much, much more to most of the gigs that I play. That's why I am so Gung Ho on that stuff. It costs a lot but the profit from my gigs more than makes up for it. It also makes playing a lot of fun. I sequence most of the stuff myself and do most of the sax section work using the harmonizer as well as the vocal harmony parts. So indulge me as I indulge and appreciate all of you chaps with your advice on saxophones and other musical aspects. Fair enough?

jazzbug1 User ID: 9990163	May 20th 10:22 PM Mugs---Are you one of these guys who plays with tape tracks? I play, at times, a New Orleans clarinet solo act at art festivals, with no accompaniment. I dress nicely in a white suit (waiting for acidic comments on that), and wear a Panama hat and play for tips. I typically make $500-$600 in two four hour afternoons. One learns the whole schtick: whining at dogs, "talking" on the clarinet, imitating a siren when the medics or police walk by, etc. It's fun for a while, but playing for four hours can give you sore chops, but when I arrive home, its fun to watch my daughter count $300 in change and $300 in bills. I conducted a 30 second TV interview in which I answered only with my clarinet. It takes a sense of humor to do this. When people drop in $, just tip your hat with one hand and "say" "thank you" on the clarinet with the other hand. Its surprising how much you can translate language into the sound of the clarinet by shaping your mouth, throat, and lips. The Albert is more flexible for this, as it is much better for glissandos, and its penetrating sound carries farther in the air, plus it gets wierd looks from other clarinet players. Try it sometime. Busker at heart.
