I am the proud owner of a Conn sax which has the following rubric upon it:

Can anyone tell me anything of its provenance etc.(I bought it from a retired music teacher in Perthshire).It is silver plated(or was)without and woulde seem to be brass within.It plays nicely but could do with some t.l.c.-can anyone recommend anyone who is not too expensive in the Lothians or Perthshire?

Dougal. Being a mere sassanach (spelling?) & living in the bottom left hand corner of England, I cannot help with knowledge of any repair people in your area, but it may be worth mentioning that what you describe as "brass within" is probably a gold wash; very delicate. Before you start scrubbing it with abrasives, I would suggest that you try a damp cloth to wipe the bell interior - you may well be pleasantly surprised....Best wishes Lewis

P.S. The numbers and letters indicate that it was made in 1924, it is a C Melody (AKA C tenor) & is low pitch; ie compatable with other instruments (A=440 Hz).
Presumably it has a straight (alto like) neck.

Dougal, I'm not knowledgeable with Scotland, living in the windy peek district, but you could try looking under "woodwind repairs" in you local Yellow Pages to find a repairer, you could them give them a ring ask ask them if they will give it a look over.
