I purchased an Otto Link Super Tonemaster Tenor sax mouthpiece with a number 9 facing on it I bought it 15 years ago. It is Gold plated and has the number 9 stamped on it below USA stamped below where the reed is placed. How can I tell how old ot really is and the worth of it. It has been played once and then put aaway for 15 years. I don't know if it was made by Babbit or if it is a Florida or New York piece. It looks Exactly like one being offered on Ebay for $500.00. That really scares me. Help me please. I only want to trade it for an open tip metal soprano sax mouthpiece. A REALLY GOOD Soprano Sax Mouthpiece!

Check out mouthpieceheaven.com (or something like that) where Theo Wanne has an Otto Link page that shows the years and models of these.
This should be it:

I picked up a baritone Super Tonemaster #8 and ground it down to a very playable (for me)#3-1/2.
I prefer the Goldbeck for the classic sound, but use the Link for the post war jazz. I use the original 1941 Tonemaster on my 1941 10M, which the original owner bought together and toured with the Les Brown band during the 1940s. I'm very happy with the sound. I think that the number of rings stamped on the shank can be of help in identifying the age.
