How can I make my 1920's silver Selmer C-melody do a little growling and rumbling instead of only honking? I play in a hobby rock'n'roll band and the C-melody is perfect on Frankie Ford's "Sea Cruise" (sounds just like a fog horn) but sometimes I'd like a little more early 50's growl to it. Is that possible on this instrument?

WW2....These junkmail spammers are worse than telemarketers. They must be destroyed. (Deleted)! Is it possibe that they don't realize how despised they are? Or are they just born masochists? (The inbred need to be hated & humiliated)!

Sadly the amount of junk-postings seems to be on the rise, they just get everywhere. Is this the end of sanity, as we know it.......?

The only remedy might be to require 'loggin in', if this forum provider supports it.

These people are the scum of the earth. We must unite and pulverize them before they contaminate all of humanity. Eradicate, destroy, erase, eliminate, humiliate and whatever else it takes.

Easy guys - they're just annoying, not in the same league as the plague, or black death....... Just another phase of intrusive marketing, like double-glazing salesmen.

Although I will admit, that all the 'official' bodies that witter on about legislation to stop spamming, are both ineffective and totally bleedin' useless.

Think it'd be against the law to string 'em up tho' !

I noticed Petr and Mellisa are not assigned User ID numbers. Any way for those without assigned numbers to be deleted or quarantined? Something like no assigned number then no post?

Two questions:

1. What does this have to do with C mesody saxophones, and
2. Is it all in the can? Because I don't think you're going to get any more scenes with Heath Ledger...

Heath is now in a worse place than the can. Why is our society obsessed with not facing reality in a normal state of mind. I know the modern world is a bit harder to face for young people, but does everyone need mood altering drugs (prescribed or not) to face life? For over 200 years, alcohol destroyed many lives, but now we have a medical/pharmeceutical business that says,"Having a rough week? Here, take these pills." Now one doesn't deal with life's problems. They ignore them in a vacant stupor. We've become a material obsessive, feel good society that can't handle daily activities and relationships without a pill to make us avoid thinking clearly about them. Sorry, but ol'Jazzbug gets upset once in a while. Sorry, but I can't get nostalgic on this topic, as the old days were full of dying alcohol addicts, with non-prescription avoidance methods. Prohibition in 1919 didn't work in making the country dry, but it was great for me, as I played seven days a week in Speakeasys.

I fully support Better Living Through Chemistry. The trick is to use the drugs (prescription or otherwise, legal or otherwise) and not let them use you...

Everything is a trade-off. Alcohol feels nice, but generally does not enhance one's performance (unless it's a small amount to kill off stage fright). THC slightly improves improvisation, at the expense of making reading considerably more difficult (not a problem if one has played the tune a thousand times). Cocaine probably does boost performance for a little while, but at some point there is a nasty little crash. Heroin... it worked for Billie Holiday, didn't it? I wouldn't recommend it as a lifestyle.

I won't get into all the modern goodies out there, but I figure you would at least be familiar with those four, as they have been around since speakeasy days. I will keep looking for you in the background, in those pics of the old-timers passing around a "cigarette" on the back stairs...

Mal-- You have an amazing technical knowlege on topics. I am searching for a drug that I can give to my audience to make them think:
1. I am funny
2. I am intelligent
3. I play well

Oh that's easy! If you want to drug the audience, it will cost you, but I have found two magic words that never fail to do the trick:

"Open bar".

I did say it was going to cost you!

Gee, I thought this thread was titled "mouthpieces, reeds and ligatures". I guess you guys just ignored that and totally turned it around to be "Anything We Want It To Be". This forum is becoming like an open ended chat line for everyones inane and egoistic pleasure. Hey, Idon't care. It just makes me laugh.I guess if I someone really wanted information on the original subject. They should go to "Sax on the Web" or one of the other legitimate saxophone information forums. What's the use of having Spam Killers on this forum. Lately 50% or more of the posts are just as bad as the deleted spam. But who am I to criticise your ramblings. Go for it. You will, anyway.

Don't you agree that we're more altruists, rather than egoists, by responding to such a diverse range of statements ?

Some of us (me included) do also frequently post on saxontheweb, what name do you post as there, Snarky ? I'm cmelodysax - appropriately.

I post on SOTW, but infrequently. I also have been known to post on the Clarinet BBoards and a few other fora on various subjects.

I do agree that every thread does turn into a chat, but whats wrong with that? Life would be no fun if we all kept on topic.

And I disagree that it is "inane and egoistic". And I also disagree that a coherent, often humorous sentence in good taste is in anyway as bad as a page of links to pictures of ladies of negotiable afffection, or worse.

I know that I seem abrasive and rude at times. But please believ me when I say, that I respect all of you for your knowledge and willingness to share it. But sometimes you get locked into a groove that seems to only pertain to a certain circle of insiders and it turns into something akin to a chat having nothing at all to do with the subject at hand, let alone anything pertaining to saxophones. Humor and friendliness are wonderful things. But when they corrupt the subject at hand for the sake of inane chatting. (Yes I did say INANE and I stand by that statement), then it turns some people off because they feel alienated from the online conversation. I know that I am not alone in this feeling. Hey, it does not mean anything bad or insulting. Please don't take it that way. You guys and girls, take it easy and have a great day.

I guess we'll all agree to differ, then... ?

Would anyone who feels 'alienated' by the inane chatter please let us know.
