C Melody Saxophone Forum / Mouthpieces Reeds and Ligatures / Olds tenor mpc

Someone gave me an Olds 3* tenor mouthpiece, which, when paired up with a 2-1/2 or 3 reed, works very well with my two low-serial-number Buescher C mels. Not being a mouthpiece maven, I'm at a loss to figure out why the piece is so compatible with my horns (lay, chamber, baffle, etc.?). Can anyone on this board shed some light on this happy development?
Thanks.

Sam.....It all depends on the sound that you want.....we all have different requirements, &, safe in the knowledge that many alto and tenor pieces (but not all) work very well on C Melodies, we go our seperate ways.
Some go for the rather stuffy (mellow?)original sound of the C Melody........others float away on a lyrical alto biased sound with alto pieces while a third group clap on a "oyster opening" baffled tenor piece to transform the gentle C Melody into a weapons grade horn................Yessss!
Having said that, I was saxophonist at a musicians' party last Saturday where various people (invariably guitarist/singers) climed onto the stand to do what they do. Not knowing what was coming next, not even the key, I had to fit in with, & solo over, Rock, Punk, Folk!!, Zazz, Blues & Soul........even with an open Berg it was easy to play sympathetically with allcomers

Lewis, I appreciate your response. What I was getting at was the question of what are the characteristics of that particular mpc; i.e., the Olds 3*. I've been unable to find any information on ANY Olds mouthpieces, let alone the one I've acquired. Plenty of info on Olds horns, but none on mouthpieces. Thanks.
Sam
PS - incidentally, the sound I prefer, and am able to produce on the C mels, with this mpc, is a rather lyrical, Getz-like sound.
