I need to ask one simple question...
I have an otto link metal mouth piece, i need a plastic ligature for it and i was wondering if you can get them and how much it would be to get one? Thank you

Nic - by 'plastic' I can only assume you mean fabric, like a Rovner ? Available from all good music shops - as they say...

I've only ever seen actual 'plastic' ligs supplied as a 'cheapo' standard lig with a mouthpiece, by some manufacturers - e.g. the Runyon C-Mel mpc has one.

Never seen plastic ligs available seperately. Maybe try asking this question at the saxontheweb forum, in the mouthpiece/lig section, more chances of replies there.

Regards, Alan.

Nic,

If you're indeed looking for a plastic ligature Gigliotti makes one. It's in the $20 range. Also, the new Robert Vinson lig appears to be a kind of plastic. It's around $15. If memory serves, I think that Runyon mouthpieces may come with a plastic lig. All of the other ligs that I'm familiar with are either metal or some kind of fabric or leather...or string in the case of a couple of hard core classical clarinet ligs. I'm not sure if a Gigliotti or Vinson lig will fit your metal Link. It would be best to take your mouthpiece to a local music shop and see what ligatures are a good fit for it. Is there a reason why you're looking for a plastic lig? There are a number of metals ligs that are truly outstanding. I, personally, am a big fan of the Francois Louis ligature (I like the silver version the best). This ligature looks really strange and I laughed out loud when I first saw a picture of one. But, a pro player buddy of mine highly recommended it to me. I tried one and was sold on it from the very first note. I've tried a lot of ligatures over the years and this one is it for me. It's probably the closest thing that one can easily find in terms of its tonal qualities to a very old silver (real silver) Selmer lig. One of those would be a real find!

Andrew,

Yes, I'm familiar with Bill Street c-melody mouthpieces. I tried one about 3 years ago. I remember it being well made and was very good as a traditional type of c-melody mouthpiece. That's great that you have 2 of them along with the original mouthpiece. I believe that Bill Street is a saxophone professor at the University of Maine. You can probably find out more about him with an internet search.

Best Regards, Roger
