Well, since I ordered one for a forum member, I thought i order 2 of them for me, too to test them.I was courious.

I tested them with my beautifull Chu Berry straight neck. Here are some pics of it.

I have ordered the Classik in #6 and the Special in #6 so that i could compare them. I played them with Superial Classique Bass Clarinet Reeds #2.5.

The are totaly different in sound. The Classic one has a nice open but warm and mellow sound with a nice timbre. The controll with a tuner wasn´t that perfect, since I couldn´t push them far enough on my cork. My cork was to thick and I didn´t want to take away cork for the testing.

Even the mouthpiece was not in perfect place I could control it very good. The intonation was very good, I think if the mouthpiece was in perfect position, it would have been perfect.

The Special mouthpiece was great too. But totaly different in sound. I´d say it is more funky and sharper. But it soundes great too, it makes the horn scream if you want to. This one was a little harder to controll, but I think that depended also on the not so perfect position on the cork. I think this one needs more to be in perfect place.

I have also an original Franklin C-Melody mouthpiece. This one sounded more stuffy, compared to the Zinner ones.

Both Zinner mouthpieces are great. You have two different c-mels. I couldn´t say so, which one I like better. I like them both. For modern music i would take the Special one, for old slow Jazz standards and ballads I´d prefer the classic model.

I have also a Runyon C-mel # 7. Compared to both of them, the Runyon sounds a little bit thinner. The singel tone doesn´t have that much body as it has with the Zinner mouthpieces.

Mo - why are you using bass clarinet reeds, aren't they faced for tenor reeds ? I'd be disappointed if it still used C-Melody reeds.

Funnily enough, I've been using Zinners recently. I already had an alto Zinner-Strathon 'Adjustotone' (with sliding baffle) 7* which I've always rated highly, but I've also now acquired a 7* tenor one very cheaply.

I can confirm that the tenor one gives a great C-Mel sound and good intonation, and with the sliding baffle it can go from funky (with harmonics) to mellow.

@Alan, you are right, you can use normal tenor reeds on them.

But since I´m so used to play with bass clarinet reeds on my c-mels, I just put these on. I was to lazy to get out me tenor and the tenor reeds. Maybe i´ll do that tomorow.

Mo - this is a 'doodle' sound sample from the Martin-Horace that I've got on ebay. It was using a Zinner 'Adjustotone' ebonite tenor mpc on it's brightest setting, and rico royal 3 reed. The pads don't help, part original white, part new with hardly any reflector - so the sound is a bit muddy.

Difficult question I know, but any comparison with the new Zinner C-Melody mouthpieces ?

The last time we talked about the Zinner mouthpieces I believe that you had a list of questions that you were going to ask Mr. Zinner. Did you ever get your answers? I'm still interested.

the info´s I got are in the other threat. The facing of the c-mel mouthpieces is equal the facing of their tenor mpc.

I could not be happier with my Zinner 78C mouthpiece. Now I use it on both the Buescher and the Martin because it responds so well and it is more in tune than all the others I have tried. I think the chamber is oversized on the LeBlancs and the Beechler is an odd design.

You can find the tip openings under www.hans-zinner.de The c-melody mouthpieces have the same opening as the tenor mpc.

Is the Zinner Classic C-Melody piece referred to as #62C? And are the C Melody pieces available in all the tip openings offered for the tenor pieces?
