A while back there was a thread inquiring about C melody music by Wiedoeft & others. The original questioner seems to have left this forum. I've had some good success putting together a variety of old pieces- some are proper C mel arrangements, othes are a C line above the piano accomp. on an alto score. Composers are names like Wiedoeft, Doerr, Sannella, Guerwich, Barroll, Urbaneck. If there's much interest I'll make list and see about doing some copying and printing. (I'm holding off on listing the available titles because it's a LOT of typing. I'll send emails to all interested parties.)

OK- I'll get a list up after Thanksgiving- or after christmas if I'm busy.

I have two Sannella pieces. One is "Saxanella" for Alto, but with a c mel line over the piano- it's a nice 1934 novelty, not quite as demanding as Wiedoeft but moves along well. Paul Brodie has recorded his "Jack and Jill". I also have Sannella's "Valse Selmer"- it's a student piece, not too hard but it takes skill to play it at a fast tempo.

One of the first records I bought after I started playing was called "Johnny Twigg and his Happy Music" recorded on Verve. They are still out there and it has all of these. Jack & Jill is my favorite and I have the music with piano someplace. All alto on the record but a great clear sound.

Both Sannella pieces I have are in Alto arrangements, but the C lines are easier to play. I suspect he wrote them in C.

As I recall, the piano parts to these have the sax line in C on the top so it would be easy to photocopy the piano part, cut out the sax line and paste it together to make a C part.

Well this is interesting. There are now 8 music books for sale on eBAy for c-melody sax, accordion and vilon. these are by Ignacy PODGORSKI ©1939. These are numbered up to 11, so he must have sritten at leaset 11 music books for the C-melody saxophone. I'm not bidding on these in case any of you want to buy them.

I've never really looked into the Podgorsky books, but I think he issued a series of orchestral arrangement books & these would be the c-instrument parts to go with them. Might be some interesting ethnic arrangements but you'd have to do a lot of buying to put together a full set of parts. Still, I'll bet there are some old Polish Halls with cases full of them.

Eric- received fine, I'll digest the contents, and get back to you, certainly a couple of Wiedoeft ones are of interest.

Out of interest, I seem to be able to scan in printed music to 'jpeg' files, and then print them to 'pdf' files using a freebie Postscript printer driver. Easier then to handle/printout as pdf rather than jpeg, and I can then put them on my 'freebie music' page with all the other Postscript stuff.

Bit of a tedious process tho', as they are still individual files, one for each sheet. I'll look into a couple of 'PDF Creator' programs and see if they have a 'multiple scan in' or 'stitch together' option. Anyone else doing anything similar ? Save me inventing the wheel (again...)

I'm talking about easily converting several sheets of printed music to one single Adobe Acrobat Postscript file (*.pdf), at minimum expense, if anyone got confused in the detail...

That sounds....interesting. Unfortunately I don't have a scanner, or know how to operate one. I'll be photocopying and duplicating the music unless you (or someone) can take my music and convert it. I'm not looking for a profit in this, just to cover the costs and circulate the pieces.
Does yoursite have a music section? I wasn't able to find it.

Eric - I have thirteen free fake-books, totalling about 400 MB, for download (in C, naturally), and an index, at -

http://www.cmelodysax.co.uk/downloads/downloads.htm

There is also a link, on that page, to the three current Sher New Real Books (also in C). I don't have them on my site, because, apart from copyright implications, the sheer file-size would hammer my bandwidth - you'd be amazed at how many visitors download the books I offer.

Over a period of one week, literally the entire membership of a German trumpet forum seem to have downloaded everything - I almost got disconnected for the rest of the month, it was very close...

But the thought of them all transposing it for Bb trumpets made me smile 8-))

BTW - there is also a full Wind & Brass Instrument Maintenance and Repair Manual there as well.

Any saxophone book and fingering chart will work. They all play the same but sound in different registers. Fingering charts are online and books can be purchased. You may want to look at Saxontheweb.com
