Jeff - I've seen a Concertone as a Martin stencil. Does yours have a 'Mercedes' low C guard (Conn) or chunky bevelled toneholes (Martin) ?

What was the ebay item number, the pics may still be there.... ?

Ken - (imho) it's not a Conn, no 'mercedes' C-guard, it's almost certainly (but see my last paragraph) a Martin. I've got one (amongst many) exactly like it, But mine says 'Bettoney, Boston'.

Slightly different from the 'normal' Martins & Martin stencils, in that the bevelled toneholes aren't quite as pronounced, and the bevel is slightly rounded. If you look at the photo taken right under the bow, you can see the bevel on the low C tonehole, same thing down in the bottom left corner of the bell-engraving photo.

Note the unusual 'multi-ring' joints, between bow/bell/body and neck. There is also no typical Martin neck brace or bow fin. I think Martin produced some saxes from a Band Instrument factory, slight variations. You know, the more I learn about C-mel manufacture, the more I realise how little I (or we) know.........

Mine is in a bad way, so I started using it as a spares horn for another Martin - but then I found parts aren't quite interchangeable with most other Martins........sigh......

Just a very slight chance it could be another manufacturer 'copying' Martin features like the toneholes, because of the slight manufacturing differences, but I don't know of any ! Looks like the original white pads, from what i can see, and the seller has only cleaned up the easy bits - some work ahead !!!

Thanks for your input Alan.I will forward more info when my C-Mel arrives.I usually buy a vintage sax this time of year for my winter project living here in the Northeast United States.I enjoy tearing down the sax and thoroughly polishing and cleaning every inch.I have a great tech man take care of the overhaul if I think the sax is a keeper.
