The new C sax design
I just got back from the factory where we discussed the new C sax production specs and time schedule. The development costs are way higher than I expected but within the realms of possibility still.
The new sax will be a narrow bore like my Conn but will be essentially an entirely new instrument.
The keywork modification will be extensive with a complete repositioning of mechanisms to enable ergonomic operation and incorporate modern advantages including high F#.
There will be an option of either straight neck or Tenor style with new octave mechanism. The necks will not be interchangeable with old Conn saxes. They will be designed to fit Aquilasax Classic mouthpieces.
The finish options will include Silver, gold, nickel, and black and some different combinations of bell and keywork. They will feature hand engraving and will have several different themes.
For other details we will have to wait and see.
Development will begin in October and production should begin early next year.
It will be a thing of beauty and easy to play!
Steve.

I have received over 55 inquiries for a new C sax so far. the rate is going up!
I guess the hit rate depends on people finding this site and the more interaction we have the better.
A google search for C melody still does not list my website!!!

Try changing the metatags in your html - you need to put in something like "new c melody saxophone" then all search engines will find your site.

Steve, I know these things change from week to week, but at the moment what's the street pricing looking like it might be?
Not that I would part with my C-mel, but I am considering selling my tenor, and that money should be put back into SOME sax!

Hi Steve. About these new C-melody's. Are they going to be shipped from China to there destinations or are they going to be shipped to you in New Zealand first and then you will you ship them on? Have you any idea how much the shipping would cost to (a) europe, and (b) north america?

Steve - and more to the point, items coming into England from outside the European Community are liable for 17.5% Tax and also import duty. With factoring charges this can often add something approaching 25% to the initial combined sax and shipping cost.
There are ways around it for the old C-mels (sometimes not always strictly legal, but what the heck....) but for new saxes it's not so easy. You might like to think about having a dealer or distributor inside the European Community, which is getting bigger all the time !
Don't forget this 'penalty' will also apply - maybe at different tax/duty levels - to buyers in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Holland etc. - if they have to buy from outside Europe. All countries with a reasonable amount of C-mel players. That price increase may just deter some buyers, so you might like to give it some thought now.
Regards, Alan.

Thanks Alan,
It's about $100 shipping to Europe and America from China.
From NZ it's about 20% more!
Dealers are not able to sell without a considerable mark up, hence the postal service I run.
Europeans are my biggest customers now so I will have to solve these problems somehow.

Steve....Please post an approximate street price as soon as you can. I will probably want one with a tenor neck!

OK
The tenor style neck will be standard but I'll have some straight neck alternatives for Ukebert etc.
Remember they will not be available until 2007
unfortunately.
I may have some spare necks made before that with new style octave mechs.
Maybe next month!

Is this instrument proto-typed yet? Intonation is the biggest draw of any instrument to me. I'd love to hear the sound of a chromatic scale and playing it against a piano.

Steve -- if I remember correctly, you were enamoured (British spelling) with PayPal. Is that still your policy -- PayPal, no credit cards? Rob in St. Thomas VI

enamoured is not the word I would use!
I operate on a tight budget(both time and money and headspace) and credit card facility increases my outgoings regularly without any proof of increasing my income.
I try to keep overheads low so that I can maintain my low prices.
One of the reasons other brand mouthpieces are $100 is the cost of maintaining the sales facility.
The quality or value has little to do with it!
Sorry Rob!

have just got back from the second visit to the factory that will make the new C mel.
The development date has been postponed until November but a new replacement straight neck for vintage C mels has already been tested and may go into production next month.
My website has new pictures of the octave mechanism and my favourite finish option.

Steve --
I'm just back to the site after an absence, and I'm very interested in the possibility of the "new C".
Could you back up and give a little history on how this came about, who the company is, likely cost of the new horn, and the like?

Steve what you can do is YOU can generate a lot of hits to your site. The more hits the higher up on the google search engine will be your site.

Latest snipet is the factory has done the drawings for the new sax
and has produced a replacement straight neck for Conns, without microtuner.
This may be an advantage for Conn users who want to keep the straight neck but use a bigger mouthpiece. Mainly for those who bought a neckless sax and now can't find one.
I'm hoping they can get to the making stage a little faster but I'm confident they will do the best job they can, however long it takes.

Steve, try to get more people to link to your site to drive up it's value by search engines.

Looks like the new straight neck replacements are going to be popular.
I didn't think there would be so many customers.
Looks like I'll have to order some more.
Any estimates out there on neckless saxes?
Any style preferences?

Steve, the new neck is also ideal for using slightly longer-shanked or tenor mouthpieces that couldn't get past the *!"?$*% microtuner (which is often siezed up anyway.....)
I think a Conn C-Mel looks 'less-dated' with the new (underslung - nice touch) neck. Well done.
