The new C sax design

I just got back from the factory where we discussed the new C sax production specs and time schedule. The development costs are way higher than I expected but within the realms of possibility still.

The new sax will be a narrow bore like my Conn but will be essentially an entirely new instrument.
The keywork modification will be extensive with a complete repositioning of mechanisms to enable ergonomic operation and incorporate modern advantages including high F#.
There will be an option of either straight neck or Tenor style with new octave mechanism. The necks will not be interchangeable with old Conn saxes. They will be designed to fit Aquilasax Classic mouthpieces.
The finish options will include Silver, gold, nickel, and black and some different combinations of bell and keywork. They will feature hand engraving and will have several different themes.

For other details we will have to wait and see.
Development will begin in October and production should begin early next year.

It will be a thing of beauty and easy to play!

Just to advise that I've published a review of the Aquilasax alto (coming, as it does, from the same factory as the new C Sax will...) which is liberally sprinkled with comments about the new Aquilasax C Sax. It's at -

And the info page about the new C Sax is still at -

Sorry but,
The production is not over.
The factory have finished all 100 sax parts but not assembled yet. The end is in sight!
Working on that now! That puts sale date back a bit, looking at August again!

Also the depreciation of the US Dollar has raised the cost but I am determined to keep to the original $700 for a gold lacquered model.

Instead of raising the price I will just charge extra for extras, so the most expensive model will be a silver plated, straight necked, engraved one.

Pic of the new Production model with Pheonix engraving on website.

So easy to play!

I've added Steve's latest pictures of the 2007 C Sax - it's a lovely looking instrument - to my 'Aquilasax' page. Steve is quite a modest chap, but I've made the new pictures BIG...

(in case you wonder, the pics are of (both) gold lacquer and black nickel finishes...)

Most handsome saxophones...full marks to you Steve.
The L/H thumbrest on the black nickel model (Alan's site) is a turquoise coloured material...are all the "pearls" the same? Very tasty.

Lewis - I believe that thumb-rest is being made from "New Zealand Paua shell", possibly just for the first batch ? May become an endangered species if the sax sells in the thousands.....

I think the other touches are standard 'pearl' (or whatever synthetic material simulates pearl these days ?) To see a modern sax in 'C' dimensions is very encouraging !

"how do I know these things?"

'Cos it's 'writ large' on the page I've put up about the 2007 Aquilasax C Sax, from info and pics supplied by Steve...

I can't remember what I did this morning (well, not all of it), but I can remember an obscure reference to Paua Shell - infuriating isn't it ?

What a nice looking sax, I would love a silver straight engraved, but may just go with the gold. At any rate, i hope that I should be able to buy one, even if it means selling something else.

Go on Owen...you know that you want one. Sell the kids.
I assume that it is a straight crook that you want, as distinct from a straight C Mel. :-)

kids? I'd have to get some first...

Yes, a straight crook, although I would like the option of both.

Steve did say in his last email "Straight neck option will cost $90.00 more" - but the straight neck only costs $98 to buy outright as an item. I think that needs clarifying, possibly that's to supply the default curved AND a straight neck ?

That's how I read it Alan...both crooks for the extra $90. Begs the question however why anyone would require both.

Well, to see which one is more comfortable is the obvious answer, although after one has decided, there would be little reason for having both, unless you suffer from GAS.

With previous experience of C Mels., I would have thought that one's preferences would already be established...for me, the "tenor" shape every time, and put the spare $90 into engraving or whatever goodies are available.

Hmm - little bit more interaction required at the factory end, obviously the extra straight crook if preferred in the sax finish ? (Whereas now they're all silver - a la King...)

Si I guess it must be $90 for both. Could be useful for getting the two (slightly different) sounds and feels, if one has the required arm length....

I have been eavesdropping on this thread in anticipation of the new C-sax coming out.

The last I read was it would be available for sale in August.

I haven't heard any *new* release information lately and I wondered if there were any updates on this?

Thanks
