Just found a nice collection of photo's of Weymouth and Portland, so if anyone would like to see why I chose to retire early, check out this link. Use 'previous' and 'next' links for more.

I know, I must have been mad to give up commuting almost daily into London and other sophisticated cities, just for a bit of sea and a smelly old harbour........

Alan.
I pasted in your link & up came a website for Battered Women....cannot imagine that much of that occurs in Weymouth!.....I remember it as a rather genteel seaside town for the retired & infirm; surely it cannot have changed to that degree in the three years since I last saw it..........aaahhh....those invigorating sea breezes & naughty postcards.

Strange, link still works for me.... Maybe Devon doesn't allow nice pics of Dorset resorts ?
'Battered women' ? - they sell anything in the Fish & Chip shops during the tourist season, but think I'd prefer one in breadcrumbs......
Retired and infirm ? OK - it's a fair cop, got me there !

Mmm ... I pity Alan now that Weymouth has won the Olympic bid for sailing ... Council Taxes in Weymouth is going to go through the roof in the next few years and for many years after to pay for it.
In the meantime I'm jolly well off to Scarborough for my annual hols ... and best Fish & Chips in the universe.

Guy - Council tax is unfortunately already through the roof and hovering some way above it. One months council tax now uses up at least one full weeks total disposable income....
(for international readers, Council Tax is a tax levied on property, which then pays for local government services, amenities, policing etc... In that respect, piracy is alive and well !)

So what enticed you to go to work in London other than the lure of "filthy lucre" Alan? Was it the dream of possibly playing sax with well known musicians in band one day or something to do with computing in which you also seem to have some knowledge? I would have thought that as a Cornishman, playing sea shanties and capstan songs on the concertina and penny whistle on the harbour wall would have been more in your ethnic line. Yeah, I could just about imagine you in a navy blue sweater, white captains cap, with a lobster pot at your feet and wellies, not forgetting a pipe on, probably St Bruno.

Now then Sir Ed, how can I answer that sensibly when I have the distinct feeling that you're taking the piss ?
Have a nice time in Scarborough, send us a postcard....

Council tax, What a major "Pain In The Ass" that is, bout time the local councils worked for their money!!!!!
