Dubya call himself one, as well as referring to "fellow Murkins" and "Murkin people" in his entertaining (but not always totally factual) public addresses - but what exactly is a Murkin ?

One line of research defines it as a "pubic wig"......... The mind boggles. Any suggestions ?

Could it be the US version of the good old British Tog that Terry Wogan refers to on his Morning BBC radio show.

What is a Tog?

TOGs, also known as Terry's Old Geezers or Gals, listen and attempt tirelessly to feature on Wake Up To Wogan. Togginess is a state of mind recognised by many, as that feeling of being old before your time. In this light, TOGs are famous for their fierce resentment of anybody younger than themselves reflected in exclamations such as 'They don't know they're born!' and 'Clear off, you young limb!'

Another tell-tale sign of a TOG is a flat cap and an inexplicable penchant for driving their Volvos in the centre lane of the motorway at 60mph. TOGs may also be recognised by their use of such arcane phrases as 'Is it me?', the self-pitying, 'I never saw a bar of chocolate until I was fourteen', the perplexed, 'Why did I come upstairs again?'

Murk is darkness or bad vision (from old Norse myrkr)...so could it be the blind leading the blind??

Or could Murkin simply be due to poor pronounciation of another word.... can't think what ....but ..."Firkin" (a cask) = 9 imperial gallons of beer which is half a kilderkin ( a cask for liquids, holding 16 or 18 gallons)CHEERS! This could be middle Dutch or double Dutch at this time of night! Dunno Alan....I give up.

Murkins live in Murikah. One of their finest states is Kaliforneeah which is governed by the Governator! Murikah is the country just north of the great Republic of Texas from where Dubya claims to have been bred and raised.

To All: I don't know what a Murkin is but I definitely know what a Merkin is! Maybe that is the spelling you mean. A Merkin is a pubic toupee. And that is not a joke! It is for real!

I always thought Murkins were the short people Dorothy found as she walked along the yellow brick road. Wait a minute, those were Munchkins. Sorry.Did you know in the film this really happened. The people playing the munchkins in the crowd scene wanted more money; request was refused. As the camera started shooting, one of the munchkins in protest put a rope around his neck and pretended he was hanged. Rather then cut the whole scene, it was left in the film; it was a really short panning shot. The George Bush you quoted was the same one who said that "fish and people can co-exist".

Capn M - yes, we call them a "pubic wig" (as in my initial posting), and spell wth a 'u'. But I don't think they're available anymore.

They originated from the dark old days when 'ladies of the night' had certain parts shaven as a cure for an anti-social disease. Customers would then be hesitant, so the 'murkin' was a cunning ploy to enable "business as usual" with their unsuspecting gentlemen callers.... I guess that's more info than most of you wanted !

But there is also a reference to (quote) "The Murkin Conspiracy: An Investigation into the Assassination of Dr Martin Luther King Jr". Hrmmmm.

Tony could take Dubya a Murkin as a little present, may come in useful.....

The way Dubya is going, I'm sure there are lots of people who'd like to remove some parts of his lower anatomy !
