As suggested by another poster, I am opening this thread for general chatter on any subject.
Those with no social skills, the grumpy, they who feel inclined to hide their background, they who still live with their mother, the anti social, they who never go out, those who know it all, those who contribute nothing but moans, those who tell us how to behave, the self opinionated, and the Oh, so serious, please feel free not to contribute.

Castaway, you must lead a sheltered life if you consider Beeflat a "wiseass" (lets see if that gets past the profanity checker) - this side of the Atlantic he's just considered a knowledgeable "character"......

I've spent enough time latterly working for US companies here and in the US, and before that playing sax for months at a time in US clubs in Germany and Italy, to know a real "wiseass" when I see one - and he ain't one, believe me, I've known more than a few !

Only US clubs I know in Germany Alan are the US bases over there. Heh! you could get a job in Guantanimo - Cuba. (%-})

Guwapo. Faced with the choice of boarding at Repton School or enduring appalling conditions on a sailing ship.....lousy food, violent crew, constant beatings, little sleep....to say nothing of sea sickness and, without doubt, some dubious sexual practices...he chose to go to sea.... the conditions were so much better.
Conditions have changed now, but anyone who attended a boarding school a few decades ago will say that my great grandfather took the easy route.:-)

Bb: Thankyou. By the way, Captain Muggles is working on a Norwegian Line Cruiseship on it's way to England. He says he's going to look you guys up when he gets there. He will be in England for about a month. He is playing with a Jazz group. I believe the name is Hipshot. He is then going to Amsterdam for a 3 week gig in a jazz club. This is not a lie or a joke. That's why he is not posting on this forum. He told me and JJ ~!@#$%^&*( )_ to take over the beligerence factor while he is gone. I don't think he took any weapons with him. So there is nothing to worry about if he locates you.

Well you know Lewis that in the old days every new fag had to be "rogered". It was part of the initiation to public school life in this wonderful and magnificient country or ours that produced so many communists. I was sorry to see the old red flag go down myself over the Kremlin because it lead to the re-emergence of nationalism that is at the root of all the violence around the world today including iraq and other countries that have more than one ethnic group. Until the nationalism question is resolved there will be no peace any where in the world.

Thanks for the info. Good for old Muggers, if he does come to this part of the world I, for one, would attend the gig. Not a worry whether he has taken any weapons...he would probably turn up late for the war anyway :-)

I entirely agree that nationalism is one of the two causes of worldwide violence. The other driving reason is not to be mentioned on this site.
I find it difficult to agree with your hypothesis that public schools produced communists...neither I nor my many public school friends are so afflicted. In point of fact we were taught to avoid the subjects of religion, politics and women.
With regard to politics, I can think of no other job where no qualifications are necessary. Heed the old adage...Do not vote for them, it only encourages them and inflates their misplaced sense of importance.

Lewis, quite right not to mention that religion is the other main cause of conflict..... Although, in deference to the mostly very gentle religious people I socialise with on quite a regular basis (...yes...), it's probably fairer to use the 'S' word, Sectarianism, instead. Splitting hairs, I know, but there is a difference, and 'no', I won't be explaining it.....

And now we've got that nice Gordon Brown as PM (which also stands for Post Mortem...) we'll all be OK, after all, he's a Scot - and Scotland is a fine place.

Someone reminded me yesterday that Brown has actually been living in 'no. 10' for years anyway, apparently the living accomodation in 'no. 11' was much bigger, with more size for Tony and Cherie's egos..... So they both swapped flats some time back.

Half of my problem with religious people is that,in the main, they are so NICE. Frequently seen are pairs of nicely dressed, oh so polite, American chaps carrying bibles...even I find it hard to be rude to them; after all, they are trying to save my soul!! (Gggrrrr)
Have you noticed that Brown has been to elocution classes? He has lost that abrasive Scots accent and adopted an amorphous "English" accent.

Yes, Brown has also (almost) just lost that strange affliction/tic whereby he retracts his lower jaw after most phrases. Replaced now by a totally insincere smile, before it was just like a snake before it dislocates it's jaw........

To quote the Scottish doctor (Patrick Carghill) from the Tony Hancock 'Blood Donor' sketch - "We're not all Rob Roy's !"

ukebert - we've 'had him' all the time Blair was in power, pulling the strings,just now it'll really be seen to be him in charge. What's that they say, "Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely..." I do believe there is a good man behind that tight-fisted penny-pinching squeeze-'em-till-it-hurts front - but will we really see him ?
