I just purchased a Holton C-Soprano Sax. I am presently playing on my Bb Yanagasawi Soprano mouthpiece with a size 3 Rico Royal Reed. I am have some intonation problems at middle C. I have played on vintage tenor saxophones before in my school band. I remember middle C being very flat and having to push the mouthpiece all the way in and compensate for the other notes. Do you think that when I get my hands on a C-Soprano mouthpice that my intonation problems will go away. I can compensate but it makes play w/ vibrato tricky. I also would like to relaquer my horn. I guess I am apart of the elite C -Soprano Sax Club!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Please feel free to give advice. I am a newbie!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have the same intonation problems (with middle C - I assume open C / C2 ?) when you play it as a B but with palm C added.

Or play as low C (C1) but with the octave key ?

A real C mouthpiece may solve some intonation problems (although I use Bb soprano mouthpieces on my C-Sop) but probably not that note - it can be tricky on a lot of saxophones. There are other factors.

P.S. by 'palm C' I meant the right-hand 'side C'.
