Not true, really. Limbaugh has been a far more influential figure with the crazy crowd for a far longer period of time.

Anyway, I wouldn't use the word "genius" to describe these people, myself. Opportunistic, capitalizing, maybe shrewd. But genius refers to intellectual acuity, the content of your ideas, and Beck is somewhat, um, lacking in that area.

Hm, well technically he's pretty smart if he's able to gain the trust of all these people.

Besides, one of the things he predicted after 9/11 came true and now his followers believe he will never fail.

Maybe if he improves his act enough, they'll make him speaker of the house.

Bring beck an old thread~

I don't think Beck is as much of a libertarian as he claims himself to be; his views lean more towards social liberalism, if anything. Although you could argue him being in favour of the Tea Party's anti-taxes campaign, which is a characteristic for libertarianism.

Then again, according to him, global warming isn't caused by human activity because 'there aren't any facts.'

Glenn Beck is a Beckist. This is the only ideology you can ascribe to him - one that Glenn Beck alone defines.

Oh ya this thread is boring, and riddled with incorrect postulations about Beck's ideology. He's a pathetic individual who enjoys extreme levels of undue influence. Because he successfully panders to the insecurities of racists and right-wing crackpots.

No, he isn't a constitutionalist, libertarian, or any of that garbage. He's a Mormon. And amongst the LDS's extensive history of failings was official support for the schizophrenic ravings of John Birch and Sen. Joseph McCarthy. Incidentally, Lauren's mental and moral tutor, Anne Coulter, is a strident advocate of these strangelovian figures and their deluded preachings.

But no, Birch is too moderate for Mr. Beck. He has been encouraging his sizable viewership to learn themselves in the ravings of W. Cleon Skousen, who was so insane that even the Mormons couldn't bring themselves to support him. Here's a suitable summary.

Quote
It’s from Skousen’s demented screed The Five Thousand Year Leap (to a new edition of which Beck wrote a foreword, and which he shoved to the position of No. 1 on Amazon) that he takes all his fantasies about a divinely written Constitution, a conspiratorial secret government, and a future apocalypse. To give you a further idea of the man: Skousen’s posthumously published book on the “end times” and the coming day of rapture was charmingly called The Cleansing of America. A book of his with a less repulsive title, The Making of America, turned out to justify slavery and to refer to slave children as “pickaninnies.” And, writing at a time when the Mormon Church was under attack for denying full membership to black people, Skousen defended it from what he described as this “Communist” assault. So, Beck’s “9/12 Project” is canalizing old racist and clerical toxic-waste material that a healthy society had mostly flushed out of its system more than a generation ago, and injecting it right back in again.

The Tea Party is better explained and understood when we realize its sources of inspiration!

Did Michele Bachmann Deliberately Sugarcoat the History of Slavery in America?
Campaigning for President in Iowa over the Weekend, She Said 'Founders' Like John Quincy Adams Ended Slavery

http://www.pensitoreview.com/2011/01/26/did-michele-bachmann-deliberately-sugarcoat-history-of-slavery-in-america/

As my friend Nate said in his facebook status, there's no reason for the headline to be in the form of a question. The answer is "Duh."

There's a pretty great Chris Matthews transcript in there where he asks a question of someone and they can't, are fundamentally unable to, even respond to the SUBJECT of the question. He aptly says that they speak as if they're under hypnosis.
